Thanked: 8Good article on why americans will believe anything
This is a good article on why americans will believe anything, and why I question most of the mainstream news. I find that most of the time when you dig down most of it is completely wrong. I don't agree with some of what this guy says but some of it is right on. The article is far to long to cut and paste so here is a link.

I thought the point was made that the off topic forum was re-opened on the understanding that we would do our best to not cause flamewars. The OT is not a place for a personal propaganda crusade.

Thanked: 8I honestly don't think this has personal crusade in it. It's an article written about how peer reviews, news media, etc... are presenting one version. It doesn't attack any side that I see as propaganda, as far as I can see. Would the moderators please read the article and if they feel it should be removed then so be it.

The building 7 thread events caused the OT to be closed, and caused people to start insulting and accusing each other.
things calmed down, we got the OT back and now you post another (similar) 1 sided story. you mention Americans specifically, calling them gullible. You don't open a dicussion or ask for other people's opinions. You just post a link and say 'americans believe anything. here is why'
Take a step back and look at your original post. what do you think is more likely?
a) the americans here will read you link, say 'yes we agree with this one sided propaganda, shame on us.
b) the shit will hit the fan. again. and we will lose the OT. again.
so yes. I think this thread should be closed before it explodes.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Im going to let this one ride for now as the title "Americans will believe anything" is the title of the news article not the posters opinion.
Play nice or Im closing the thread. Ill keep a close eye on this one.

I actually read a very interesting fBI report not lonh ago that stated falling down after getting shot is a learned response that people have picked up from movies and tv. Only about 50% of people fall down when shot, and they now beleive it is a direct or inderect result of the media and entertainment rather than part of a fight or flight response....I found that quite interesting.

Kinda like when someone gets shot with a 12 gauge, and is lifted off his feet and throught a window 3 meters further.
This is physically impossible, or the shooter would get the same impact.
Someone getting shot with a 12 gauge will just fall backwards like a sack of potatos. Or at least, that's what I saw on mythbusters I think.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 108Actually, it's a myth that sacks of potatoes fall over. Traditionally they lift off and fly through windows. But studies show that in recent years they've begun to fall over; researchers attribute this to the influence of the media and specifically the phrase, "fell over like a sack of potatoes."

Thanked: 1587Sacks of potatoes are notoriously suggestible. Hammers are interesting - a recent study showed that, in its natural habitat, a hammer is really quite intelligent and will, left to it's own devices, develop quite complex theories regarding inertia, force and momentum. However, when the scientists got a bunch of hammers together and put them in a box....well, you know the rest.
