Default Thought I would clear something up....

    It's about my handle.

I have had quite some number of people imply bigotry in my posts and I have no doubt that it is partially due to my handle.

Now understand that I have absolutely no obligation to explain myself but in the interest of not being censored because some jerk likes to scream bigot (I'm really surprised my past sig didn't get censored) every time I post anything questionable, I will.

Once there was a little brown girl who lived in the UP of Michigan.
(it's split into two parts for those who don't know. UP is Upper Peninsula)

    She was very poor.
Her and her 6 brothers and sisters moved around a lot but somehow never managed to live in anything bigger than a 12' X 14' shack.

Her mother was a fat slob and her father only came home to get the welfare check and beat her mother, brothers, and rape her older sisters.

Their basic diet was macaroni with mayonnaise, and for two years she wore the same pair of red jeans to school every day, where she told the other kids that she was Mexican because it was better that being Indian.

Now lets move up to sometime in the 90's......

    Feb nineteen ninety-something

The boy couldn't help but think how warm his new coat is as he steps off the bus into the blowing snow. Much better than the hand me down that his cousin had given him.
It should be warm, after all, it took no less that 17 beavers to make it, fur inside and out.
Seventeen prime pelts he thinks to himself, over $1000 worth of fur with the way prices should be this year.
No wonder only rich people could afford them, and the expensive coats were only fur on the outside, this was done on both sides.

Seventeen beaver, what a lot of work. Funny how each animal has just enough brains to tan its own hide. But boy was the leather soft.
Grandma's needle had just flown right through it, like so much baby blanket.

He was so caught up in his own thoughts that the snickers from the other kids went totally unnoticed almost until he reached the front doors of the high school.
" Hey look, it's the great white hunter !" one of them jeered.

"White?" he thought to himself, " I'm brown as hell from all the time on the snow runnin my line". It had started snowing quite early this year and had never stopped. Hadn't been a whole lot of years that required snowshoes.

His mind had wandered to other things by the time he got to his locker, he was too busy noticing how the straps on the backpack had smashed the fur down on the shoulders of the coat.

    A little later.....

Ah lunch time... every kids favorite.

Damn idiots with that "great white hunter" crap again.... they'll get tired of it in a week or so.... is that my coat in his hand?
What a stupid question, who else has a fur coat.
    Better go get it back.

great, there's like 10 of them...... bet this will end up as a game of keep away.

    10 mins later...

I finally caught hold of my coat, but so had someone else.
Not wanting to turn this into tug-of-war I let go, but it was too late.
The idea had caught like wildfire.

Something started to rip, I punched the closest one to me, knocking him down.
Another turned to swing but missed and got it too.
"Hell, if I can give my dad a black eye then these kids are easy as pie" I was thinking to myself.
But my dad wasn't 10 people.

I did have a skinning knife in my boot.....

By this time an adult had caught wind of the situation and arrived just in time to see me with a knife in my hand.

I watched them rip my beautiful coat to pieces as I was dragged off to be expelled.
(boy was dad happy about that, happy enough that his "joy" landed me in a foster home and took some weeks to heal)

The name stuck, even at the new school.

" Hey look, it's the great white hunter".
" More like ingrate white hunter!" another would say.

I have removed the IN from the front of it.

I tell this story because I am tired of the accusations.

I'm sure some of you have looked at my handle and thought that I was some racist white power type.

Truly truly I say to thee, you are less of a man because of it.

Just wondering what the girl in the red jeans has to do with your fur coat being ripped to shreds while you wielded a knife on campus?

    that was my mother

    familiar with inherited shame?

I realize I failed to tie the two together, opps.

After having reread it, I find it sounds like a sob story.

    Not my intention.

Simply thought it was time to clear up the origin of my "nick".

Just a new breed of terrorists, the ones who want to keep you afraid of the words you use.

I don't use a nom de net. You have to only imagine the kind of wordplay my name generated when I was younger. And my great grandfather was so proud of his choice to change his name from something unpronounceable to something American.

    'Ef 'em.

that was me, I thought it was a hack job, bad grammar, punctuation, ect., but the truth none the less.

unless of course you were implying that I have copied it from somewhere and I am misunderstanding you in which case

    whatever

(sorry Lou but it's been my mantra for years)

Had you thought that maybe I might think your a bigot because of what you say, not what you look like or where you come from.

I am and have always been a hunter/ trapper.
I was the one who trapped the animals that I got the pelts from.
I also tanned them by a process called "brain tanning".
It makes wonderfully soft and absorbent leather, much like a "shammy" that you would dry your car with, but is very tedious and time consuming.

Classically the term great white hunter was applied to whites aka non natives who trophy hunted and generally massacred game in Africa or other places.
