Thanked: 150Palm Organizers
does anyone use a Palm Organizer for their schedule, tasks, ... ? If so, please let me know your thoughts on them. I am considering getting either the Palm Tungsten E2 or the TX. Right now I have a blackberry, and the PIM functions on it are just plain horrible. However, the phone and e-mail service is provided through the firm, so I don't want to pay for a "smartphone" like the Treo.
any input is greatly appreciated.

I've used both Palm devices and, currently, a Sony Clie, which uses the Palm platform but is no longer sold in the US. I sync mine with Microsoft Outlook on my computer, which is very easy to do, once you get things set up. The devices are easy to use. Get a big, hi-def screen. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Thanked: 0I love mine as well. I've never had any difficulty syncing it with Outlook, and the proprietary calendar, etc. is fairly decent as well.
It syncs well with Mac also (my home computer).
If you want to be able to use office, documents to go is a good software choice - it seemlessly lets you create/edit/save word and excel documents and view powerpoint.

Thanked: 0I have run the gamut (sp?) on the PDA scene.LOL! I'm the CFO of our company and we are in 28 states. All those states have a different due date for the tax return, as well as each county within that state and each city within that county. I have a mind like a steel trap but I need something to beep at me when things are due.
In the beginning I had the original Palm and Handsprings upgrading as technology did. Even had a HP Jornada Pocket PC. I prefer a smart phone so I don't have to keep up with two units. I also keep my check register via the PDA. I rarely write a paper check, it's usually a debit card or online bill payment. I always have my phone with me so I can always write the debit in. As opposed to trying to remember and write it in a paper register when I get home, office, etc.
Up until 9/8/07 I was using a BB 7100i (Nextel) and it crashed. Four consecutive replacements would not power up the radio for the phone portion to work. The PDA part worked fine, but no phone service. There is a known problem with the BB in my area. They gave me an i930 in the meantime. I will keep this even if they get BB working again. It's a smartphone with Pocket PC.
My take: Palm - most stable OS, can be tricky syncing.
Pocket PC - almost as stable as Palm OS, but flawless when it comes to syncing with Windows.
The good thing about PPC and Palm is the fact that the purchase of one software disk, Pocket Money, can be used for either platform. You choose during install. This is by far the best personal finance download for a PDA.
BlackBerry - I don't feel the OS is quite stable enough and I don't like the route it takes to sync. The biggest deal I had with it was it's not compatible with Pocket Money and the software available for it is subpar, I feel.
If I had my choice, I would get a smartphone with Palm OS. My company's on Nextel so my choices are Blackberry and PPC. I think I'll stick with PPC. I rely HEAVILY on my PDA, if you do too, BACK IT UP almost daily!
Hope I didn't go on so long I wasn't helpful.LOL! If you have any specific questions, I'll answer the best I can.

I have Windows Mobile on my phone (which I think is pocket PC). Let me just say that its ability to sync automatically with my outlook is a lifesaver. I've got a good memory too, but when I get a ton of deadlines and meetings, my phone seriously keeps me out of trouble. It's so good I threw away my old calendar planner.
Sooo, if Palm syncs up with Outlook and that's what you need it for, go for it! I wasn't so hot on buying my current phone because of the price, but I will honestly never go back to a regular phone.

I use a Treo 650. It works fine with Outlook. Just wish it were a bit lighter and smaller.

I am in the exact same boat as Randy, but have used the Tungsten very happily in the past. It worked well with my old PC and my new Mac. I especially like the Documents to Go which came bundled with mine. It allows me to edit documents and spreadsheets on the go.

I'm definitely a gadget guru! I have had and used just about all of the the palms out there including the ones you mentioned and the Sony Clie's. I have used the Treo's and the Motorola Q, In my opinion either model Palm would work good for what you want. Palm is a stable plateform and very user friendly. I use a blackberry now (8830) and it works great i just wish there was a simliar device with an mp3 player built it because the Iphone is garbage!

Thanked: 150Well I think I am going to go with the Palm TX. It seems to have all the bells and whistles that I need/want. I was stuck in a continuing education seminar all day today, and found myself dying for some way to be productive for all the work I had piling up in the office. given that this comes with documents-to-go, and couple that with a keyboard, I could have done a lot at the seminar that would have been applicable to work, and I wouldn't be a day behind. It has wifi, so I can check my e-mail at home and in a hot-spot, as well as blue tooth, so I can couple it with my phone to act as a modem.
Now I just have to bite the bullet and go purchase it.
