Another leave of absence
My company's sending me off to Gowganda (north Ontario) to do some bush-crashing at -30. The trip will take anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months, depending on the client's budget. I should have access to the internet but not to my razor. I promised 2 members some items and I'll mail them out today. Too bad this is a gentlemanly forum or I'd be using a whole lot of swearwords to describe my feelings about being sent up there.

I just read a few books about men being trapped in the arctic while searching for the NW Passage. Pretty awful stuff.
Enjoy your trip.

This is closer to the US border than to the arctic.. Actually our company has been doing a lot of work in the area. They were gonna send me to the northern edge of the continent, but it would have been warmer during that time of year and lots of natives snowmobiling, in addition to having a helicopter on call. The survey would have also been less physically intensive and there was a huge bonus involved. The natives wouldn't let us approach the grid with snowmobiles or a chopper so the job didn't pan out. On a good note, I got a Level II mine supervisor certificate out of the whole ordeal.

So do I. The company's overflowing with work, so one busted client won't affect us very much Those of you who know me very well know that I hate cold weather and always say that +40 (Celsius) is ALWAYS better than -40

For hating cold weather, you sure live in the WRONG country!

I feel your pain brother. Been there, done that, though luckily not at -40.
This is the very reason I got out of the software consulting business, even though I liked the work.
Always going to customer sites to do my work, always hoping that the next client would not be in a gridlocked city...
To be honest, I could not complain. Most of my gigs were at 1 hour driving, which was not too bad.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 0Oof. Sorry that had to happen to you Ilija. Hopefully you'll only be there two weeks as opposed to two months.

Thanks guys. I'm ranting now because once I get there, I'll just have to zip it up and do my work. Won't be doing it with a smile though.

Just look out for the bears. Don't get eaten by a grisly.
