Default What kind of music do you like?

I've gotta learn how to make polls one of these days, but until then, usual threads should do....

So, what kind(s) of music do you like/listen to most often? I suppose there'll be a lot dependent on age/local culture, but it's interesting nevertheless.
May be going one more step - is it unusual in your surrounding to like/listen to this kind of music?

Metal. Pretty much exclusively, with some classical thrown in. (They are more similar than most people are aware of...) The type of metal is highly dependent upon mood/setting. (e.g. if I need to think at work, I'll listen to some math metal, if I am depressed, I will listen to some industrial or some doom metal, if I am feeling good I will fire up some symphonic or epic metal, etc.)

If I am in an exploratory mood I will let the satradio in the truck flip through stations, and see what is going on in the world of modern music, but more often than not, I don't find much.

It is somewhat uncommon here in DFW, but neither is it unheard of. (don't know of any local fmradio stations that play any metal)

I enjoy listening to my 4 year old sing. Just vocals, no backup dancers, 5-piece bands, or orchestras

I listen to everything from ABBA to 50 Cent,
depending on the mood. My one tried and
true is Irish music. I can listen to that all
    the time.

Gothic metal, heavy metal, and the 80's classics. And various classical composers of course. I like mozart's requiem.
I also like eminem despite not liking rap / hiphop at all.

like jockeys, I match my metal to my mood.

When I was in college, studying for my finals I would put the cd on autorepeat, and play either 'my dying bride' or mozart's requiem continuously for 12 hours per day.

I especially like metal when programming complex code.
There is no metal station here in Belgium, though we have a national channel that plays alternative music, and metal / rock on occasion.

For those looking for certain types of music
channels I have two words: satellite radio.
I have Sirius and it is the best thing I ever
did to my car and my wife's car. Any type
of music, or programming for that matter,
is there pretty much commercial free. Well
    worth it.

Not when you're a guitarist who's dabbled in both

I don't listen to much these days unless trying to learn from a certain guitarist. A little Leo Kottke , a little Michael Hedges, a little Yes, a little Pink Floyd, sometimes old Scorpions (late 70's -early 80's), a tad of early Metallica, a little King Crimson and derivative bands, a shot of Mark Knopfler, --maybe a few more -- a little Rush,

But I haven't listened to the radio in 20 years (as a practice) -

Classical, opera, choral and glee-club music, jazz, 60s rock and folk (as befits an old hippie ), the great American popular songs (Porter, Carmichael, Gershwin, et multi alii), Russian popular and folk music, tango, last but not least bluegrass--a sign of encroaching senility or madness, no doubt, is that I'm trying this late in life to turn myself into a bluegrass fiddler. No doubt I left something out. And I've been guilty of writing in some of those idioms, though so far unrewarded with wealth, fame, or even public performance. Yup, I like music, a lot, and the more the better.

I'm mostly into country, but I also listen to classical, alternative, and classic rock (60's thru 80's).
