So, after being told in November that my contract was not being renewed due to budgeting issues...and after pounding the virtual pavement since then, by God's good grace I started a new job on Thursday as a project manager with a firm here in Denver.

It is a company that provides systems to State governments for managing child protective services, children's insurance, etc. It is contract-to-hire, so I hope I do well enough for them to hire me as an employee after 90 days!

My thanks to all here who offered words of encouragement....it was the first time I had been unemployed since the early '90's....very scary. I can't imagine the stress if I had a wife and kids.

Lessons learned:

Don't stop looking for positions, even if there is a "sure thing" on the horizon.
Make sure you have 3-4 months of living expenses in savings (cancelling the holidays helped out too)
Keep praying...hard.
