I just quit bringing it up unless I want someone to feel awkward. In other words, when someone has a knife that's "razor sharp", I educate them on the error of their ways- with a Zeepk! It's usually enough to tell these people that the blade can quite literally separate your skin with just a touch.

Yeah all of my friends and family think I'm crazy because I use a straight razor. But my girlfriend thinks it's sexy!

My wife doesn't think I am nuts.
a) she knows how much smoother my face is now
b) she knows that shaving doesn't cost anything anymore. I only spend money I make from restorations
c) I shave every other day now.
Other than that I don't talk much about it. My best friend knows about it (because he is also into sharp things) and my close relatives (because there are always razors about, and I am often working on those while they are present).
The few women in my family who know about it have rubbed their face against my cheek and were impressed by the closeness of shave and the smoothness of my face.
But I don't usually talk about it with other people, just as I don't discuss brushing my teeth.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 150Agreed, I learned a long time ago that very few people care about your personal hobbies and especially those that are weird or obscure to them.
That said, the little lady got an earful when I was new to straights, but the enthusiasm eventually wore off and now she just sees me shaving and checking this site and ebay from time to time. I pretty much go about business as usual unless I get a nice new one or something, then I show off a little.
I suspect this will happen to most people, just at different rates.

I find straights to be an interesting extension in knife discussions, and among my closest friends straight talk is welcome and interesting. My son likes to watch me strop, he says I am making the razor "sharker" - If or when I feel the need to obsess I feel welcome to do so here at the forum!
