UPS or OoPS
In the past 3 weeks UPS has lost 3 possibly 4 of my shipments... including a razor that I had shipped out as a replacement for the first one they "misplaced"
I was cool about it at first, They were only Wapis... right?
and I had them insured.
Unfortunately the one they lost today wasn't a Wapi...
It was a mirror polished 8/8 W&B Wedge with Amboyna burl scales .
I was sending to a member here as a thank you for doing some custom work for me.
The good news is this member doesn't know who he is, or that he is missing out on this nice thank you gift... So he isn't stressed out and royally PO'd at UPS.
I'm at an absolute loss for what to do, They have literally lost 10% of the packages I've sent with them in the last month, 2 have been located, but only one has actually been delivered... 6 days late...
They charged me twice for one of the packages they lost, a package I had to send to replace another package they lost...
They have insinuated several times that I didn't send a package, or that a return package wasn't sent by a customer of mine only to find the package the very next day... and their supposed refunds and/or insurance has accounted for absolutely nothing as of yet. I'm still trying to get a shipping refund for the first package that they were supposed to deliver on the 18th of last month.
I'm not sure what to do, I don't trust the US post office either, and I've been very lucky the packages weren't razors I was honing for members.
That's just what I need, to have UPS lose some member's great grandfather's TI or something.
Has anybody else had similar problems, and how can I resolve this?
Talking to UPS is not getting me anywhere, it's like talking to a wall.

When UPS first approached me they said they could be my shipper for a safe, secure and economical small business solution. When I asked for details, I quickly figured out "small" business to them was Wal-Mart. I have had no problems what soever with USPS and I do 90% of my shipping business online. And my postal delivery/pickup person is very sharp and diligent. I am going to start a postage meter as soon as I find the deal that works out that it's free.

Go with FedEx my friend. I've trusted them with tons of business, including things like space suits, with zero mishaps. And, unlike UPS or USPS, when they say they'll have it there by tomorrow at 5, they mean it.

Mike,
I use USPS exclusively and I three years of business have had only 2 lost packages and those were International, not domestic. I also use them for all my non-shaving eBay sales...vintage pens, slide rules, typewriters, etc.... and I ship a LOT of packages every day.

My mom ships all USPS for her ebay stuff (perfumes, lotions, other stuff in that genre) for CONUS and international.
I myself prefer fedex, and HATE UPS. Had something get damaged a few months ago, got my claim check a few weeks later but yea... Packages are often lost, delayed, and damaged... FedEX or UPS for the win

Thanked: 4Loathe UPS, usurous brokerage fees and yes they lost a shipment coming to me and still haven't reimbursed the shipper. Months later.
Happily USPS, DHL, Fedex etc. UPS has decided that customer service isn't important to them it seems.

... Did I mention that they sent me a bill for brokerage on the item they lost/stole? (nice)

I would have to disagree about FuddEx (be vwet, vwey qwiet...we're losing packages..hehehehehe). They lost the first 2 razors I sent to Lynn to hone...said they were delivered. It took me 3 calls to get someone who head was not firmly stuffed in their a**...when their investigator contacted the depot in Ohio, they refused to help her....all she could do was pay the claim.
I have had no problems with the Post Office. UPS - FedEx in brown. They both make their money off of corporations...John and Jane Public mean nothing to them.

I have had great success with FedEx and USPS. UPS routinely delivers packages to me that look like an elephant ran over them. I am paying for their services on the condition that my merchandise arrives in the state it was shipped in. To me, their utter disregard for the contents of the packages they deliver makes them useless to me.

I can understand, they've billed me for their mistakes... I spoke with the owner of a local postal store, and she's had serious problems with DHL, so they're out.
When I shipped out that first big batch of Wapis, I sent them with USPS, and they lost or damaged 4 of those.
I would prefer Fed-ex, but their shipping goes by zones, and has too many variables for me to put a simple rate table on my web site...
I don't see a good alternative.
I've also been told that getting USPS and DHL to honor their insurance claims is like pulling teeth. I know of one business that has not gotten USPS to honor a single claim in over 10 years of shipping.
UPS is looking to be difficult at best on that front. It's almost worse when they find and deliver packages weeks late than if they never found them.
This last package was one of the better restorations I've done. and it was the first one I've done in the amboyna burl that I got stabilized, and was really happy with.

I'd also give a thumbs up to USPS and a huge thumbs down to UPS.
I've had swearing shouting matches with UPS where they were trying to convince me that the house I've lived in for thiry years or so doesn't exist. A couple of things to remember everyone you talk to has a boss they don't want to have to bother with your problem, and all you have to do is act pissed enough to get to talk to that boss. Dont deal with the local people, they don't care. The corporate people care so little that they will do almost anything to make you go away including giving you what you want, yell at them.
