for my reel mower, the backlapping technique has worked fine. once or twice when there have been bad dings in the blade from hitting a rock or whatever, i have used a dremel with a small stone cylinder

Thank you all for the replies. I intend to seek out an old timer who sharpens things, i do live in a rural area that is big into antiques and such, i just haven't looked yet. I'll read up on the sharpening method too. Its been years since i used this thing, but i'll get it going. You'd think these mowers would make a comeback considering all the pollution controversies going around.

    Appreciate the help!

They really should become more common the price of gas being what it is. I think many people have the eronious assumption that they are more dangerouse than the moder version based simply on their appearance.

They have always had a following around here as this area is kind of a rich hippy meca.

that, and the mower itself is usually much cheaper, since a few extra blades and planetary gear system is WAY cheaper than a combustion engine.

But is not, cheaper I mean. They both sell for roughly the same price here for equal sizes.

The biggest problem people have with reel mowers is that they look like work. They arent unless they are dull and then its absolute hell.

There ya go, and if you figure out how it works you probably don't need it to sharpen your blades.
