Just got home from a follow up. The doctor stated that I broke the bone into 3 pieces.

Man that really sucks but at least you're still alive and didn't suffer from any life threatening injuries. My girlfriend used to ride before we met but stopped due to a wreck that resulted in her breaking her collarbone. I myself have never been on a motorcycle but we have talked about buying a bike this summer. I have a 45 minute commute to school everyday (mostly on a rural interstate), and thought that a bike would be more economically friendly than my mustang. I have a question though, is it more likely to be involved in an accident while riding in the city rather than driving on a two-lane rural interstate, or is there no real safety difference among the two?

Then I guess I didn't need to tell you that it sucks

Hope everything heals up fast, so you can get back in the saddle

My opinion is that the city is far more dangerous. Cars are your enemy, they often don't see you and will hit you/cut you off/do wierd things that force you to ride defensively.

On country roads, you need to look out for gravel and crap. But, IMO, lowsiding due to some gravel is probably less likely to cause serious injury than a close encounter with a car.

90% of the time, it is the other guys fault not the riders, then there is a small percentage of you know what happens and the remainder is stupid hurts. You have to drive defensively all the time. Even in the country. You let your guard down, the next thing you know you are staring a deer in the eyes. Having said that, I have been riding for 20 years, hit asphalt twice, but have no intention of giving it up. Too much fun, not to mention that a week’s worth of gas costs me $20 versus $90 in the truck. You just have to treat the bike with respect, gets stupid and run wheelies down the street and it turns into a $10,000 meat grinder.
