Well, not professionally, but I dabble
Most recently I have been documenting my conflict with the ants in the Kithien Region, located inbetween the Silver Valley of Sink and the Stove Marshes, right at the base of Mt. Cooks (my toaster oven). It's pretty short, I could post it here if the mods will allow it.

I like to, but I do more poetry than anything else. I've tried stories but I find I can't do the complexity that they demand. Something I really enjoy is essay type stuff. It sounds weird, but if I get a good subject I like writing that sort of thing

I've written a few technical pieces for tech practices, and am currently working on a book about Judo as time permits.

Wrote a book a few years ago with a Dutch friend on pythons and boas - http://www.cornishcrispa.co.uk/produ...oducts_id=2802
Didn't make my fortune but it is nice to have on the bookshelf (I am the 'Wiseman' of Kivit and Wiseman!). Played with writing educational fiction too - mostly kids wildlife stuff for use in educational programmes. None officially published but used a lot by the org I workded for across Scotland. Like all things creative it needs time, space and mood!

Thanked: 0Good to see there are some fellow writers around. I also like to dabble (absolutely nothing professional). I mainly enjoy writing speculative fiction (aka fantasy and a little science fiction-all of the really nerdy stuff
). I have written a short story or two, and a friend and I are currently developing a novel length story. I don't know if they would allow us to do it on SRP, but would any of you be interested in creating a forum where we could post the stuff we write and get feedback from others? I find that it is helpful to get feedback from people with varying backgrounds (which is sometimes hard to do when most of the people you know have similar backgrounds to your own). I have done quite a bit of editing and would be more than happy to give my fair share of feedback. I thought it may also be intresting to start a seriel (fairly certain I spelled that wrong)story, where one person starts by writing a chapter and then each consecutive person writes a subsequent chapter, but they are bound by the facts included in all previsous chapters. Anyway, just some thoughts
Stephen- congrats on the book

I am currently in the process of writing a book that analyzes science, human emotion and religion and how they influence one another. I'm about 60-65% done with the first draft (always the hardest part), been working on it since February or so in my spare time. Been carrying a journal around and writing the book by hand in there, at some point I will have to type it all out and start editing
the damn thing. Can't even imagine what a mess it's going to be by that time, it's already a couple hundred pages, handwritten; I'm not especially good at writing in a linear fashion, but I promised myself that I would try it at least once.
My wife is also a non-professional writer, she is putting together a very scholarly treatise on how different religions view the idea of Hell. (she's WAY more dedicated than I, she is learning Hebrew and Greek so she can translate various ancient texts for her book)

Thanked: 0I tip my hat to you for handwriting a book--I have long been corrupted by the ease of typing (I always seem to be able to follow my thoughts better typing--I handwrite so slow I have trouble keeping up with my thoughts). A couple of hundred handwritten pages since february is impressive. Your wife's treatise also sounds interesting--any idea when it will be availble to the mass market?

Thanked: 3Yes. One Canadian Bestseller so far. Non-Fiction. Has been in print for years and years. Fifth edition on bookshelves now.
Called "The Modern Goldseekers Manual".
I have about 30 technical, non fiction and fiction pieces in various mags over many years as well.
I have two other non fiction books on the go and one fiction.
I had to laugh when I saw that someone mentioned hand writing because I did he same with my first book and then had to type it all over again on an old fashioned typewriter so normal folks could read it. It was a massive job as I had been writing the hand written version over about 2 years while on the road and in the bush in various notebooks and on loose scraps of paper. One section was written on two paper napkins from a restaurant in Dawson City, Yukon and another section was found on the backs of two large manilla envelopes. Everything was being carted around in two big legal sized file folders held closed with elastic bands. I just shake my head at the thought of it now. It then went to editing where it was all done over into computer. Now I head straight for the computer.
Gotta love cut and paste!!
Wish I had the time to write more but not really a meaningful income maker so mostly for my own fun. It is a blast to see something you created on a book shelf.
