Homeland Security, is it going too far?
I just read THIS article about a reporter from England who got shipped back to the UK for some unclear reason.
I hate to be controversial....but the way in which she was treated reminds me of the way the USSR would treat reporters back in the day. (My Dad visited Poland quite a few times (with difficulty) when the Berlin Wall was still up.
Is anyone else as shocked about this as I am?
What do you guys think (and gals offcourse since we're not a multi-sex forum officially)

Thanked: 0Homeland security has gone way to far a long time ago--some of the problem seems --to me-- to be the propensity to include everything possible in Homeland security to prevent any problem in obtaining funding (there is no congressman in the land who will stand up and say I am agaisnt homeland security). Alot of this issue is the Ominbus Budget Reconcilliation act--but that is another discussion for another day (think Ear marks). Anyway, the situation we are left with now is that everything, including things such as public health, is covered under the umbrella of homeland security. You end up having alot of people making decisions on things who have only a law enforcement background and no expertise in the areas were they are making decisions. Add in an element of media driven fear and you have a recipe for disaster. I think eventually the Amercian public--and the international community--will get fed up, but who knows how long that will be. -charlie
sorry if this was a bit of a ramble

The U.S. government is increasingly larger and more invasive, but implemented the security measures described in the article in response to the citizens' demands for more security. It's how politicians retain their jobs. It does appear though that many of them will probably be lost next election go around, and some changes will certainly be made in U.S. homeland security policies.

I'll not comment, as many of these types of stories prove to be false, other than doesn't anyone read what they sign anymore?

Thanked: 0Well, I have to agree with you about that. You should read what you sign. However, sometimes it is impossible (every closed on the sale of a house?).
