The problem with all Bike saddles is the way they are designed when you ride on them you are really not riding on your sit bones you are riding on the horn on front which means you are riding on you prostate gland. If your a youngin it doesn't matter but as you get older I will guarantee it does. And its not much better for women also. No matter how its padded or cutout the result is the same. The only seat I have tried that really is different is one called a bisaddle which looks wierd and has no horn on it and you actually sit on your sit bones. It can be adjusted to pivot from the front and rear.

Well, like other have mentioned, most bike shops have a box of saddles you can try out... it really is a very individual thing and as most shops offer that service for free, why not try it out first. Myself, I'll not ride on anything but a Brooks anymore unless it's a recumbent in which case it's an entirely different ballgame.

I discovered I have not been keeping up to date on Brooks and I see there's a new saddle which avoids some issues that never used to exist. The saddle post in the old days was simply a tube and you had a saddle clamp that went around the top portion of the tube that was a smaller diameter. Most bikes of current manufacture have a clamp at the top of the tube that grips the saddle rails directly and thus won't work without additional parts for the old style B66 which has dual rails. Brooks has of course made changes and there is now the B67 which has single rails with the B66 top and springs. The B 66 is a great saddle and was typically installed on a sit upright, 3 speed Stermy Archer hubbed. Gents bicycles. The even larger saddles made by Brooks were more common on delivery bikes where it was expected that the delivery person would be spending much time on cobble stone and or gravel roads and with a bicycle that frequently was difficult to maneuver such as 3 wheel cargo bikes and the like and they needed the heavy duty suspension to take the sting out of riding those things all day long.

As you may have noted, the issue of possible damage to ones unmentionables performance has come about quite recently and not from traditional bicycles and their seats but rather the extreme styling and performance type road/mountain bikes with their ridicules high seats, low handlebars and of course seats made from "high tech" materials that won't mold itself to the bottom of the rider that we are being sold today.

Brooks is a popular saddle for many RAAM racers and if there's anyone who needs a comfy saddle it's these gents. The record time for this race is 8d 3h 11m..... oh, did I mention, that's the time it took to travel 3000+ miles on a bicycle!
