Think of all the terrorist options. What would happen if say they killed the engines of all the white cars during rush hour but left the rest runing.
Also read the article this is the least scarry option open to people who could hack the system if it ever was implimented as fully as it is conceived.
Perhaps 1984 was only thirty years off after all.

IIRC, on-star has been able to shut off your car and track it in general since the system started. Naturally, they cannot monitor all the cars at this time ... but someday...
Primarily these features are used once the car is reported stolen. once you file the alert with on-star... they look "ping" your on-star receiver now they no where you are, once the LEO has your vehicle in sight (they have to be working in conjunction with on-star) the good folks at on-star can turn your car off and disable the electronics.
and yes the system is hackable and really is a threat to motorists.... but it is like any other time you choose to surrender liberty for security.
On-star is the main reason i no longer drive new GM products.Last edited by syslight; 07-01-2008 at 01:03 AM.

Thanked: 9Sorry to have put such an interruption into the thread, I wasn't really attacking anyone, just stating a fact.
Maybe I got some patriotism hammered into me in scouting, or maybe it's all the family I've had that served in the armed forces, but regardless of intent, it's a horrible expression. I don't take my freedom for granted like way too many Americans do.
/rant, nothing to see here, please continue.
