Thanked: 7Haircut
I basically try and do everything myself, from sharpening my own razor, to building my own engines. Somehow I decided to try and cut my own hair. I usually pay about $25 ever three weeks or so for a haircut. My hair is pretty short, and they use clippers on it. I went to Walmart, and for $18 I got a Wahl clipper. My wife was concerned, but I headed out to the garage anyway, with the clippers in my hand. It took me about ten minutes, and I had as good a haircut as I have had in a long time. It was a funny feeling. It seems that since you are a little kid, your mom drums it into your head not to cut your hair. Now I just need to decide what to do with all the extra money I'll be saving from the haircuts I won't be paying for. Anyone else do their own haircutting?

Actually my wife cuts my hair. I would never attempt to do it myself. I don't see how you can get the back and sides straight unless your hair is so short you just shave it all off.

Mostly been cutting my own hair for years. It's quicker when my wife does it, but she doesn't like doing it, so I do it myself. Used to do it w/ shears, but the past few times I've just buzzed it, #2 guard first time, then #1, lastly w/ no guard at all for the Patrick Stewart/Ben Kingley look. It feels good, but come colder weather I'll probably let it grow out again. I like the shaved look and tried it a few years back; but have several moles that aren't flat and knicked one. Thought it would never stop bleeding, so decided to skip that look. Also the wife hated it.

with certain things in life, i am a cheap bastard. my hair is one of them. i either have no hair, or tend to have a lot of it. i buzz my head down to a #1 most every other week. but after about a year or so, i start letting it grow. then this usually lasts about 2 years with no haircuts, then back to buzzing it.
i have used the same hair clippers for about 10 years now. they cut most of the hairs.

I've used electric clippers since I was a kid. I always cut my hair to 1/4" whenever it gets near 1/2".
My wife cuts my the line at the back of my neck, thought I used to do that myself too, using 2 mirrorslooking at the back of my neck via the hand mirror which reflects to the big bathroom mirror

Thanked: 3795The last haircut I paid for was in 1983, when a "stylist" cut my ear and did not mention that it had bled down onto my nice new dress shirt. She had a fit when I did not tip her but I considered the fact that I did not ask her to pay for my shirt to be her tip. I took a year off from college shortly after that and worked two full time jobs that did not involve any people contact so I didn't bother with my hair. When I returned to college, my hair was in a ponytail and I cut it myself by just pulling it down and cutting the end off. Over time, I got better at cutting it shorter with a scissors and comb and I have been cutting my own hair ever since.
I cut my wife's hair too! I was terrified of doing it but I just watched her get a few $75 cuts and paid close attention to how they did it. Eventually, I found that I could replicate what they did and since I was doing it more often, her hair is in better shape because of it.
