    +1 on that Spike!

Although I shoot, I wouldn't like firearm ownership to be a complete free-for-all with anyone able to buy whatever assault rifle they feel like walking around with!

I'm glad that those of us who have responsible reasons for gun ownership can achieve it without too many hurdles to overcome, but I wouldn't want to have a free hand in buying and hoarding weaponry.

Of course, the US seems to have a far greater number of criminals armed with (usually unlicensed and illegal) firearms, so I suppose there is a greater case for the average law-abiding citizen to be able to arm himself for the purposes of self-defence (which is not considered to be a "good reason" on a license application here) but I'm very glad that this is, by and large, completely unnecessary here.

    Ian.

I did, read Bruno's reply too.
A search on any UK gun forum (if you dare log onto something like that) would reveal answers.
I'm sure a call to the local Bobbies would also yield results or give a better idea of where to look.

Isn't that what the local police and gun clubs are for?
now that he has some idea from people with actual answers I thought I would lay out our rules for comparison.

I did tell him to take a class didn't I?
    THAT was on topic

I'm gonna leave it alone before it becomes a gun control thread

BTW, how are ammo prices over there?
they gotta be taxing the pants off shooters

    just the criminals, huh?

but, in all seriousness, this just sort of strikes me as an odd thing to say. must be the cultural difference. where I am, roughly 1/4 of the adult male population carries guns and almost no one cares or thinks it's a big deal. it's always interesting to see other people's perspectives, though, thanks.

BTW Some of us actually like living in a country where you do not have to worry that every man & his dog might be carrying a firearm!

    can't believe I missed that

I was distracted because the dog was asking me if he should take the Uzi, MAC 10 or the Krink.

the Krink is sorta hard to hide even under his black trench coat, damn AK mags being curved and all

plus the MAC is light enough to allow him to carry extra grenades

I simply don't worry about it. I assume everyone I deal with is carrying a firearm and is able to use it, it keeps me polite when I actually think about it at all.

Besides in the UK you should worry about which man is carrying a gun, he's a criminal you should also worry about which guys might have a knife, or be stronger than you, or your wife. You have no equalizer when dealing with the evil in the world.

I forget who its attributed to, but the qoute goes like this. " An armed society is a polite society." So let all of us be as polite as we can.
