A friend of mine found a letter carrier's bag, full of letters on the sidewalk on the way home from school one day. He picked up the heavy leather bag and lugged it home. When his dad got home it was a big scene but my buddy finally convinced dad it was just laying on the sidewalk and no mailmal was around. The next day the bag was turned in and after a brief investigation (I guess they just went to the guy's house) it turned out the letter carrier had a houseful of people's mail he decided he wasn't going to deliver.

My USPS carrier brings all packages to my door and we live half a mile from our mailbox. I think that they are supposed to. I'd file the complaint. Chances ae that if she's done this to you twice there are other people who are just as teed off as you are, yet haven't said anything either.

Since I've had experience as a letter carrier I've never been able to understand why carriers would do that. It seems to me that taking it all home is more work than delivering it.

Not if you are going to use it for heating in your hearth

So youve heard of other instances where the mail has been re-directed?

There are news reports every once in a while. I don't get it; They risk jail time, loss of job and benefits as well as their pension because of laziness. It just goes to show we government employees aren't the sharpest razors in the rotation.

sorry to hijack the thread (here in so cal we don't have mailboxes at the street level, the drivers just park and walk around the block) I was wondering if anybody knows the veracity of this?

As long as we get paid for delivering it to them.
