Madness in Canada
I'm not sure if anyone has heard about this horrific incident. Last week on a bus traveling across Canada, a man began stabbing the young man sitting next to him and then beheaded him. Utterly mind-numbing! Evil incarnate!
Man slain on bus had 'a heart bigger than you can know': uncle
I thought we in the US had a near monopoly on nutcases like this. There are many other reports covering the tragedy. Understandably, our friends to the North are in shock. The young man's friend set up a Facebook site for him...over 100,000 people have joined to express condolences.
I am still at a loss......

I read about it. The only thing I can say is that it's a tragedy. The attacker is clearly missing a couple of screws, because there is nothing sane about his behavior.

It's a huge story here in Canada, and mostly because we're not really used to this kind of thing happening in "our backyard," so to speak. It really does hit home to most Canadians simply because it is so out of character for a "Canadian" criminal act - usually your more mundane B&E or armed robbery gone wrong...but out and out killing of this cold blooded nature is something that just does not compute.
I believe all Canadians are hoping this man will be designated a "dangerous offender" for the gruesomeness and callousness of the act - if he is designated a "dangerous offender", he will be effective incarcerated for life without parole.
What a nutjob!

Thanked: 79Heard about it here on the news. To be honest it is shocking to me to have that on the same continent.
It isn't the sort of thing that my mind can wrap around, without a motive of some sort. Possibly were the man a fanatic middle eastern (or other) radical, but apparently even that isn't the case, so I really don't know.
Horrible stuff, hope his family is ok, or at least as ok as they can be.

The guy was obviously crazy and should be locked up in a mental institution for a long time (life if there are no viable treatment options), for both treatment and to give the victim's family a sense of closure. I see 3 causes for this incident:
1) The guy was obviously loco. If he didn't snap on the bus, chances are he would have snapped elsewhere.
2) Mentally ill people usually end up being poor and Greyhound's the cheapest long distance travel option.
3) Travelling by bus is stressful. Takin' Greyhound from Elko to Reno, I've seen one deranged passenger lock himself up in the toilet and another (probably "normal" just having anger management issues) dude trying to break the door down. That's why, while I was sickened by the incident, I wasn't surprised.

and did nobody on the bus do ANYTHING to try and help? i could maybe understand if there was only one other person on the bus but if there was maybe three other people they could have easily done something about it.
it is a terrible shame that there are people out there like that, and it is always horrible to hear about something like this happening no matter where it happens\

Did I see a report indicating that the first police to arrive saw him eating the victim? Or am I thinking of something else?
Really sick. I know it seems like this type of stuff is increasing, but there are historical accounts of similar things happening in past centuries. I think communications and the increase in population has made it seem worse. I feel for the families though.
