Ah, I see what you mean. It depends on whether you're counting Gold medals or overall medals won. MSN actually has a poll to see which should be the determining factor in "rank". Most are choosing the Gold medal count. I don't know that I agree with the idea of ranking nations though. Its more about the individuals. That's just me though. :shrug:

I'm just finding it ridiculous how the IOC sets up some of these team events. Its makes no sense that you can beat a team in the heats, then again in the semis but lose to them in the gold medal game and they then are considered the better team and get gold, thats the most assanine thing I've ever seen. yet this is the way they set up all of the tournaments. Its like saying that skill doesn't count and that if you have a lucky day you deserve to be considered the best, no matter the comparative records of the teams, or the event history of the two opponents.

USA drop the baton? UK start their final runner WAAAY to early? What is wrong with these guys? With regards to who is to blame i'd say the third USA runner (who didnt place it in Tysons hand even tho he had PLENTY of opportunity) and the fourth UK runner who started running WAAAY too soon.

speaking of medal count. I think its stupid, of course China and the US top the lists they have the most athletes. It gets even sillier when you realize that many of them all train together and play together in the off season.
It seems like the Track stars all train in the US no matter hwere they are from.
Vollyball players all play professionally in Russia or Italy whoevers colors they wear.
all the Top B-ballers play in either the NBA or WNBA.
All the ping-pongers are from china, where there are professional leagues.
Its kind of like, no matter where you are from you play for the corporation that makes money off your sport not the country you are from.
I aswell am so pleased to see GB 3rd in the medal table. Our guys and gals are making this nation proud. Every single participant from every nation should be proud of their achievement!

Grats, it seems the Americans are gaining a bit on China's lead.
Apparently Spain is trying to take one of Denmarks medals away. The mast on some boat broke just before the race and couldn't be fixed so the team from Kroatia let us loan their boat.
The Danish team came a bit over 3 minutes after the start which is ok according to the rules in that sport it seems. And they still won.
Unfortunately the Spanish took it to the IOC, who luckily deemed the victory in favor of Denmark. And now the Spanish are taking it to the COS (not sure if that is what its called). To try and have it overturned again.
The Germans who would be getting a bump in some sort of medal should Spain get their way have elected not to contest the gold to Denmark. Rumor has it because of good sportmanship (the Danes winning with a 3 min slower start and a boat they have not trained in day after day).
