I'm not gonna get sucked into this one. An internet forum like this isn't really up to the task of properly discussing such an expansive issue as the Israel-Palestinian question. Suffice it to say I think the majority of Americans support Israel and our government’s alliance with them. Do we disagree over some of the details? Sure. Do some Americans disagree with some of Israel's actions? Sure, but the fundamental support is there.

Aha! This reminds me of a wonderful essay by Mark Twain. He says that a lot people think that God doesn't answer prayers, but it isn't true, He does. It's just that He doesn't always know what prayers to answer because they are contradictory. For example, in church the pastor says let's pray for a mild winter so the poor won't freeze to death, but the the President of the coal company is sitting in the front pew and he's praying for hell to freeze over so he'll sell a lot of coal. In a similar vein, we wish for peace in the world but there's a lot of money to be made from the arms trade. Maybe that's why there's always some little war going on somewhere.

I've just been reading THIS, and it doesn't sound so good for the good ships SS Free Gaza and the SS Liberty.

I hadn't seen this article, thanks. The quote from the Israeli defense department spokesman,

"You can demonstrate, that's OK with us. But you are not allowed to break international law."

is priceless, considering that the wall the Israeli's are building on Palestinian land has already been declared illegal by the International Court of Justice and Israel is in violation of more UN resolutions that any other country, not mention that, as the occupying power, Israel is in violation of its obligations under the Geneva convention.
