I'm trying to educate myself on the nations finances, but the more I try the more I find crap like this:
Senator Barack Obama on Thursday released a list of $740 million in earmarked spending requests that he had made over the last three years, and his campaign challenged Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to do the same.
I'm sure there's a way to spin this and blame Bush for it.
If McCain/Palin gets to the White House, you'll see how easy it'll be to lower the national deficit, wihout increasing taxes

What's the rest of the story, what were the earmarks for? There's lots of good earmarks all the time. How about all the earmarks that have gone to Florida and your Cuban anti-Castro causes.
Bush does have a veto you know. Back in the day the Republican houses could have passed the line item veto too, they did control both houses as well as the executive for 6 of the last 8 years?
What about Sara Palin and her assertation about killing the "bridge to no where", the bridge was cancelled, but she fails to include the fact that she kept the earmark money and spent it on other projects in Alaska. What about the 28 million dollars in earmarks that she accepted while the mayor of a town of 6000 people. She really sounds like she's against government waste.
How much money has John McCain set aside in earmarks? $10 000 000 for U of Arizona and $14 300 000 to create a buffer zone around Luke AFB to name but two. By the way you are aware that Mc Cain voted against the Bush tax cuts right?
Like Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) said regarding McCains earmarks, “One man’s pork is another man’s alternate white meat,” , “If he asked for it, we put it in.” . Hmmm and he's a republican too.Last edited by Hutch; 09-06-2008 at 10:59 PM.

Here's part of the rest of the story. I don't want to expend too much time digging this crap out, but here's one that to me smells "conflict of interest", it may explain how Michelle got to where she is.
Obama Requested $1 Million For Construction Of A New Hospital Pavilion At The University Of Chicago.

"The New Hospital Pavilion (NHP) will focus on adult programs in cancer, GI, neurosciences, advanced surgery, and high-tech imaging. The NHP will replace existing general operating rooms and adult specialty care beds. The design maximizes flexibility to meet rapid changes in medical science."
How dare they spend money on stuff like this and a whole million dollars too, that just so irresponsible.
By the way she started work at the hospital in 2002 the earmark request in 2006, so not really sure how that would have gotten her her job or maybe they are just really good planers.

Here's a couple more, what is with this guy Obama wanting to spend money on cancer and strokes, doesn't he know this money could be given to corporation like Haliburton and KBR.
Obama Requested $2 Million For The Thorek Memorial Hospital Cancer Treatment Center. In 2006, Obama requested $2 million for the Thorek Memorial Hospital Cancer Treatment Center. IFor more than 85 years, residents of Chicago have relied on the progressive health care provided by Thorek Hospital and Medical Center. Founded in 1911 by surgeon Max Thorek, the hospital began with the philosophy of providing a human atmosphere where the patient is a person rather than a case, a philosophy that carries on to this day. The Hospital is currently embarking on a three-phase/three-year project to upgrade and obtain the diagnostic radiology equipment necessary to identify and treat one of the most common ailments facing our patient population, such as Cancer. The phases involve purchasing a 64 slice high-speed PET/CT Scanner, an upgrade of the Linear Accelerator/IMRT equipment in-Radiation Therapy, and the purchase of a digital mammography unit. Obama Requested $1 Million For Alton Memorial Hospital To Support Its Riverbend Stroke Center. In 2006, Obama requested $1 million for the Alton Memorial Hospital to support its Riverbend Stroke Center. Strokes are the third leading cause of death in the United States today, and a leading cause of long-term disability. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 45 seconds and someone dies of a stroke every 3 minutes. Evidence now shows that early detection and treatment greatly reduces morbidity and a study in the Journal of American Medicine reported that patients who receive care in a designated Stroke Unit versus a general medical unit had a 17% reduction in deaths. A stroke center at the Alton Memorial Hospital, with nearly 900 professional staff and 222 beds, would greatly benefit the River Bend area of Illinois. A 3-hour window of treatment is ideal for stroke victims, and the closest treatment facility is currently 150 miles away in Peoria. A stroke center at Alton Memorial would not only reduce morbidity, but also improve long term outcomes for stroke patients in the River Bend area. What does this have to do with "Palin's Choice for VP"?
Can we stay on topic? If you want to discuss earmarks, conflicts of interests and the flags of various nations I would suggest a new thread.
Going briefly off topic is fine, as long as things are kept in perspective.
