Should she be worried?
I was disappointed that John didn't take the opportunity to lighten the mood. I think he could have simply answered "yes." And when asked for an explanation he could have said, "Just you whoopi. Nobody else, just you."
I'd also like to point out that this video is worth watching even if you don't have sound. Watch Barbara - was she drooling or just bored?

This video really reminds of something. During my undergrad years in psychology I was several times accused of being a racist by several professors and students for merely showing admiration for the Founding Fathers (both Federalists and Anti-Federalists) and the Constitution. I remember having heated debates during class on this topic; this is when I first realized my true passion was in government, not psychology. I agree with you though, McCain could have “lightened the mood.” For me personally though, it gets rather aggravating having to repeatedly explain my position on constitutionalism to those that always make the remarks similar to what Whoopi just said.

He could have come out of that a whole lot better if he indeed had lightened the mood.
And I also think his answer was wrong.
If the founding fathers had been all-wise, the constitution would not have to be amended. They were fallible humans so they weren't all-wise. Demanding that the constitution should be interpreted as the FF intended may be a good soundbite, but it's not what you want.

of course he didn't try and lighten the mood. talking racial politics with someone of a different race than you are is about as lighthearted as tapdancing in a minefield.
obama might have been able to get away with making a joke there, but an old white man? no way. they'd have crucified him, and he knew it.
disclaimer: i am not a fan of mccain or obama.

The whole reason for whoopi"s question was a backhanded approach that would suggest McCain as being racist, the suggestion is as good as reality in politics, she knows damn well that he isnt suggesting forced servitude. I will not vote for McCain or Obama so this is an impartial observation.

McCaing should have lightened thing up a bit by joking. "Woopie" You made so much money over the years you have nothing to worry about. You can always buy your way to freedom!"

Whow! I had two typo errors and a grammer error all in the same post. I should refrain from licking toads until after 3PM.
