Thanked: 6Eagle Scout here. I had pretty good troops (two of them) and got to do some really exceptional things--National Jamboree, foreign exchange to UK, and Philmont.
We went to the Philly area summer camp (although we were in NJ) as it had some very cool traditions and is the oldest scout camp in the nation (home of OA lodge #1).

I only lasted three weeks in the Scouts, back in the 60s. I was deemed unsuitable after showing the scoutmaster the proper way to tie knots after he made a real hash of some he was demonstrating.
My father was a Royal Navy man and we'd tied knots for as long as I could remember.

That's quite funny. I was a boy scout. We didn't really do merit badges or anything. But I learned a lot of practical thinking and doing things for myself.
It was a lot of fun and still comes in handy every now and then.
It's nice knowing how to chop wood, tie knots, make a fire, cook dinner etc.
