ok, in all fairness, the Hitler Youth sang much better than those kids. so it's really not a very nice comparison.

Thanked: 586Hey, this is great singing! And what's wrong with these children have an optomistic view of the future? Arise! Arise!

Ouch! I hope it wasn't Chex or something with rough edges!
Following up on icedog's comments, parents have always tried to make their kids smaller versions of them - be it to pass on cultural traditions, religion, national pride, whatever. The real challenge is to pass these things on to your kids, but not alienate them to other views in the process. That is where having an informed understanding of your views and beliefs comes in handy, as opposed to just spouting off what you heard/were told by someone else. Then you can answer your kids' questions.
Both my parents were moderate-to-conservative, but valued education and information over indoctrination and propaganda. If they did not know or could not explain something, we went to the encyclopedia or library to find the answer. I was never told that a view was wrong, except when it came to the basic rules of society and humanity (don't cheat, don't steal, don't murder, etc.). Thus, it is hard for me to place myself in any one camp - it depends on the issue. I must view every issue within my own personal context, be it as a technical professional, a veteran, a Midwesterner, an Orthodox Christian, a former police officer, a Freemason, a homeowner, a hunter, a pet owner, whatever. I have never followed any party or group blindly. I have always believed that if there is a discussion of positions on various topics and there is 100% agreement on every topic, someone isn't thinking.
I think that older kids (high school) should be exposed to the political process and should be encouraged to participate in voicing their opinions and views, provided they can support them with facts and they are not just parrotting their parents views.
I ownder how many parents would allow that?

hey, even though they don't sing as well, maybe one of these kids will grow up to be Pope, eh?
