Question That tune reminds me of when....

I was listening to a tune the other day which reminded me of a time and place in particular. The memory of it made me smile. The song was by Razorlight, called 'Somewhere Else' and it reminded me of the day before my best mates wedding. I was best man on the occasion but it reminds me of the two of us driving in his car along the winding roads near where they got married. Full volume, loud singing, good times.

So I invite you to share yours guys. Music has a strange power to do this. Whats your tune?

    EXCELLENT topic!

wow there are so many songs that remind me of so many different things!! "Perfect Situaion" by Weezer reminds me of my first ticket

the "Alegro con Fuoco" from Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" reminds me of my girlfriend

but Renegade by Styx is the one that takes me back to a time in high school. Me and my two best friends Thomas and Jason in a big field in Jason's 2-door blazer trying to fishtail when the front passenger wheel caught the ground and the whole vehicle rold on to 2 wheels and almost rolled over. I was in the front passenger seat and thomas was in the seat behind me. That was the fastest i scrambled into a guys lap ever! hahaha me and thomas both jumped almost instantly to the other side of the car to force it back on all fours rather than on it's side....then we went to church :-)

It's weird and not very polite, but Massive Attack's "Inertia Creeps" takes me back to Baghdad 04-05. The whole album helped me keep what little sanity I was able to retain from that place, and that track was the one I'd listen to when I needed to get amped up prior to going out to shoot things. I can hardly stand to listen to it now, though. I love the tune, but when I hear it my brain kind of shifts out of reality and puts me in a less-than-pleasant state of mind. Iron Maiden's "The Evil That Men Do" would be another that takes me back to the same time and place. Other than those, I've never had an "our song" or anything special with music that I could relate to time or place.

Iron Maiden's "Hallowed be Thy Name." Reminds me of my first Maiden concert; Arch Enemy opened, we were right up in front of the stage on the floor. Me and my buddy were belting out the lyrics at the beginning, and we were the ones that started up the center pit when the riffs kicked it. It was, bar none, the best concert that I have ever been to.

    "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson

Reminds me of the Philippines, 1983, a little bar on Magsaysay street called the Maraposa! It seemed that was the only song their old jukebox could play!

Funny Mark, that you mentioned the Philippines. That's the location I was thinking of for my music-inducing-flashback.

Roxy Music's Avalon always reminds me of my time in a town named Baguio. I was there in '91. The album came out ten years before that, but after discovering it in my friend's pile of tapes, I played it constantly. It seemed so appropriate for those surroundings during that time.

    Song title: "Folk Song"
    Band: Bongwater

    Year: 1992?

I was working at a hotel/casino in Grand Portage, MN near the Canadian border. I lived in one of the hotel rooms with my cousin and a friend of mine for about 4 months.

Each employee that lived on site would take turns hosting a "party". One of the other employees played that song at their party. I was simply blown away by the song.

You're right, music has a way of solidifying memories. I have many many other memories/music I can think of.

"Blues fallin' down like hail." Robert Johnson
"Aw, Pretty Boy, can't you show me nuthin but surrender?" Patti Smith
