    Happened to me in january - managed to get life support(linux) to run for a week when it died again permanently. Nothing but one corrupted hard disk was salvageable. Goodness knows what happened.
    I lost everything. All my work, documents, photos, EVERYTHING!
    Absolute nightmare - now I will never keep important stuff on my PC, no matter how safe I think it is.

    There is no problem with keeping stuff on your PC, as long as your PC does not contain the only copy.
