Thanked: 17Saturday Night Dead
Once one of the funniest shows on television, Saturday Night Live has been reduced to 1 1/2 hour of 30 second chuckle spans spaced about 15 minutes apart. i know that the show thrives off of people that are situationally funny (bill murry, dan ackroyd, eddie murphy, chevy chase, and a few here and there as of late), but I really think they need some one to stand out. The elections are about to end and the SNL's ratings are going to tank when Palin and McCain are no longer doing spots to get people to pay attention (non-sequitor: did you hear about McCain's younger brother spasing out on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and calling 911 to complain about the traffic ?).

I appreciate what you're saying. However, the same things have been said at various times over the past 30+ years. The show seems to do well for a while; then it sucks for a while; then they get some good, raw talent again. If they had deep-sixed the show in the 80s, like many were calling for, we would not have had the pleasure of seeing Will Farrel (sp?), David Spede, Adam Sandler, and the late great Chris Farley. At that hour, its no skin off my back if the show stinks. I just don't watch it.

I totally hear you on the disappointment with SNL. I grew up on this show, and have a real warm spot for it. So much so that I give every episode a chance. All I can say about the last few seasons is, thank God for Tivo.

Last time SNL was seriously funny IMHO was when Phil Harman and Co. were at the helm.

Phil Hartman. A huge loss! He was the best do-anything-play-everyone guy that SNL had since Akroyd. I guess since then there's been a few, most recently Hammond who I really like, but doesn't always get the best parts.
