Thanked: 586Matt,
I understand you may be much smarter than I but please don't make me out to be an absolute imbecile. Why would anyone care what makes anyone vote for anyone? Hey, you make your decision based on whatever criteria suits you. I would think the final deciding factor for most people is not what they candidate says but how he or she says it. I could be wrong, I usually am but I'd bet that mostt people listen and watch as the campaign progresses and makes her decision based on the feeling she has when the candidate speaks. The gut reaction is very powerful. Bill Clinton was hugely poopular because he was so natural. He made folks feel comfortable when he spoke. It is apparent that he could only do that for himself but his campaigning for his presidency was won by his charm.
I still say Akady is only complaining because he feels the giirl made the wrong decision, for the wrong reason. If she were supporting McCain or if McCain won, this thread would never have been conceived.

Thanked: 8First I would like to say that she was jsut an example for what happens though out history and I believe was more prevelent in this years election. I am appauled by the fact that people vote strictly on party lines and I belive that if you vote for a man just because he is black that is just as racist as voting for a man because he is white. I would be appauled if someone voted just because of the way one looks. I have learned though my study of theology to be able to set my faith and emotions aside and look at something from a critical angle and asses the pros and cons and morality of something. It is this critical thinking that I believe more people need to do before engauging in voting. I hope to one day take part in the electoral college, it is this that got me thinking about this. I dont ever plan to align myself with a party because I do not belive that one group can always be right. It is this thinking that will most likely prevent me from becoming part of the college. I believe that many people voted strictly off of emotions this year on both party sides.
Finally icedog to answer your question, yes I do believe the girl voted wrongly and the reason is because she did not think for herself, but just followed. This has nothing to do with who she voted for just how she voted. I personally did not vote in the two party system (who I voted for is my business). I guarantee that if McCain won the headlines would read "America still racist" Finally I find it funny how the Democrats are telling the Republicans to stop complaining when that is all they did for eight years. And to both I say stop complaining, get active and informed and make the change yourself.
With that being said, it seems that on this forum this discussion will not be able to remain a civil and gentlemanly discussion so I ask the Moderators to please lock it.Last edited by Akady; 11-05-2008 at 11:16 PM.

I am closing this thread as the original poster has requested.
As you know I grew up in a communist country, and I would like quote one of my teachers:
"In the west freedom is for everybody - the smart use it to do smart things, the stupid to do stupid things."
