On the epic failure that the california "assault" weapon ban was, pre ban guns and magazines were fine to own.

Now, if the conspiracy theorists are right and the impending police state is indeed coming, then they will want to ban guns. But good freaking luck managing to do that in the US.

I am not a gun "nut" but I do own guns and have no problems with them. I don't know why some are afraid of them, they are not the cause of the problems of the world or the US, they are simply tools.

    1. there is no registry on most firearms. (at least in my state)
    2. most bans have grandfather clauses, that is why there is such a buying frenzy.
    3. full auto weapons have never been federally banned in the US. (although some would call the Sporting Use Act of 1968 a ban) some states ban them, but mine does not. it's always been legal to buy them here, the clinton ban did not affect that in the slightest. it was still perfectly legal to buy fully automatic weapons during that ban. most people are not aware of this.

i have made some investments in that area myself in the last few weeks, if the clinton ban was any indication, i'll be able to easily sell what i've got for 500% of its initial cost.

Typically in America when they ban a weapon they will not take it from someone that already owns one. Yes they know you have it but as long as it was legal, when you bought it they will not confiscate it. A quick note; automatic weapons have not been legal for a very long time in America. ♦ We have not reached the point like Australia that the government will take the guns from the people and destroy them. For the most part, we here in America consider that dangerous to freedom and our forefathers also viewed it the same way.

This is patently untrue. They are illegal in YOUR STATE. There is no federal law banning the sale of automatic weapons, it's perfectly legal to buy them in many states, my own for example, and there are lots of them in civilian hands.

I fyou were to buy full auto, you would be heavily taxed and documented, but here things prior to law are grandfathered(allowed), but no more will be allowed.. Most of the gun purchases are semi-auto, one squeeze of trigger= 1 round fired.

Obama doesn't need to ban guns. For the same outcome he could just ban ammunition and let people keep buying as many firearms as they like.

guilty until proven innocent, right? you can't have ammo unless I say so

why not just enforce the ban on crime?

Exactly how off topic is this thread gonna go? And why are so many threads atm being drawn into gun law discussions?

hoglahoo's post is right on the money.

additionally, some people make their own ammunition and have enough stockpiled so that even a component ban would not affect them for years if not decades.
