Sadly: likely nothing will be happening. I'll be on call for the entirety of Thanksgiving, which means no alcohol, and likely no thanksgiving meal. What I do intend to do is get together with my fellow colleagues that are on call and enjoying several sagas back to back, such as the Lord of the Rings and original Star Wars.
As for the question as to which holiday is bigger, Thanksgiving or Christmas, I'd say it depends on the family. Right now, Thanksgiving doesn't mean much because my family is scattered, while Christmas will likely be the bigger event. Growing up, both were equally important. I've always seen them as a great, neutral way for everyone to get together and enjoy something we in Oklahoma love to do: eat a bunch of tasty, heart-killing food together. The family that gluttons together stays together, right?

Thanked: 586Have you tried a turducken: Stuffed Turducken $85 Delivered | Buy Now! | Fresh from CajunGrocer
I stopped doing the family Thanksgiving because I spend the day at a soup kitchen in New Haven, CT serving a proper sit down turkey dinner to the poor. Last year I was pulled out of my usual spot in the kitchen to drive the van. We were picking up and dropping off anyone who needed a ride. I drove three guys to the YMCA. As they piled out of the car, one of the guys placed his hand firmly on my shoulder. He said, "Thank you sir for a beautiful day and the wonderful dinner. God bless you for chasing away the loneliness for this one day."

Thanked: 13245Ahhhhhhhh I can't wait, My only responsibility is the Turkey, which the wife will have soaking in a special brine mix for two days before Thanksgiving......
This has always been my favorite holiday because it is only really about family and friends...
Since my wife and I live quite aways from our respective families it has become a tradition that on Thanksgiving we invite any of our friends that don't have their own families to spend the holiday with, which makes for a fun celebration.... The food is followed usually by some type of trivia game or recently the Wii game after relaxing awhile ... Then the desert starts

Here in Canada we've already had out thanksgiving, but I have to agree with you, it's one of my favourite holidays, and I think precisely because it's the least commercialized and most family/friends oriented.

this is my year for T-day prep... although i was offered a "bye year"
the cast:
4 of my sisters and their families, 2 of my old aunts and their families a few friends... I'm expecting 42 people over 13 and a smattering of little kids... 2 brined turkeys and a whole ham... all the trimmings and the only things I'm not responsible for: wine, desert and cleanup!
activities:
perhaps I'll manage to occupy the masses by having them decorate the house for Christmas while dinner is being prepared
and there are lots of board games... drunk adults are best at playing "apples to apples" though
i like the turkey stuffed with turkey and bacon idea... not sure i could sell everybody else on it.Be just and fear not.

I used to love Thanksgiving at my Aunt and Uncle's place In NJ when everyone in our family would go. Then it started shrinking. My grandparents passed away, my parents moved far away, cousins had elsewhere to go, Uncle passed away then my Aunt passed away. Now my fiancé and I are living at her parent's house and I (1) HATE her mom's cooking, and (2) HATE cooking in their dirty kitchen with unclean dishes. I usually LOVE to cook, but not here. Anyway, I think my fiancé and I are going to sneak away and go out to a nice place for our own special Thanksgiving so we don't have to be here. At least the food and company will be good.
