    I wold agree full-heartily, my parents had a bigger influence on me than my friends in the long run. They shaped the beliefs that are at my core.

    I would have to say that in my experience, this really isn't the case. YMMV. "Real life" informed a lot more of my decisions than my parents did.

    YMMV truly is the phrase of the day.

    I've had the exact same experience as Alex in that although the peer group I chose to associate with was much stronger in shaping my behavior and my beliefs during my age range of 14-25, in the long run, thankfully, it was the value system my parents taught me that prevailed.
