Thanked: 17Won't it be Great?
Won't it be great when straight shaving is back in the forefront? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love being able to order razors and supplies such as sharpening stones, soaps, etc. online, but won't it be fun seeing which stores jump on board first? I think Nordstrom will be the first to try to cash in on what's honestly, a way of life. I look forward to the day I see guys in a department store with a bandaged face attempting to return a straight razor they bought because they thought it would be cool and didn't know they had to sharpen it.

It would be so-so. I don't think it'll happen unless the world economy goes to hell and the 5 bladed dildos are too expensive to make. Besides, if it did, imagine how expensive good razors would become on the Bay. Besides that, how many good razors will get ruined? T'would be a nightmare! Maybe I'm just selfish

Hey Quick Orange, maybe this is the excuse we need to go on that ebay buying spree! The whole world will be looking for straights and you and I will have them all! Muhahaha!

You say this as if you believe a substantial percentage of the male population are going to revert to use of straight razors. I can't imagine that will be happening. The men of today are generally tuned for convenience. There is nothing convenient about using a straight razor. The amount of gear, time and knowledge required is considerably imposing. We who do use straight razors are (in my opinion) a more adventurous lot than average. But hey, if this sort of fantasy is what floats your boat, dream on.

Tone Gentlemen. Tone.
Personally, I like being a little unique and would rather see Straight Razors be a fringe group. I think it may surge again for a bit but in the end it will be a minority group like it is now. This is a time consuming way to shave and it seems to appeal to guys who like to use their hands.

Thanked: 31Yep, I'm with you on this one, Icedog. Scraggly beards will become even more fashionable than they are because people won't want to invest the time into getting a great shave. "What do you mean, I have to slow down and pay attention? And re-lather and do it all over again in a different direction?? I have to sharpen this thing from time to time? Forget it! Where's my Wii?"

I agree that the popularity of straight shaving may flare up for a brief time but I do not think it will last for long. Remember when cigars got into fad in the mid to late 90's and then faded away. Remember Disco?
Now I'm dating myself.
I just think that a lot of guys like to act tuff but when the rubber meets the road they are just wimps.Did I say that? Yep, I did. In my spare I'm a volunteer fire fighter and a smoke diver (interior fire fighting). One of the biggest concerns I have with that is that even the toughest talking guys/gals run for the SCBA's (Self contained breathing apparatus) ant the hose nozel and get to the door. Some even make it inside, but I can't tell you how many times I found myself wondering where everyone went.
Straight shaving isn't as dramatic as all of that but I believe a nick here and a cut there will scare most away. Also, straight shaving is too complicated for the average person to care about participating in. Keep you mind on what you are doing, fat chance. How many people do you know that really hold themselves accountable for their own actions? Shave with a straight? I don't think there are many that will when they find out what is involved and can find an easy way out of it.
I give a lot of respect to all of the SRP members that have braved the straight razor challenges and continued on to be proficient in this art. I also thank all of you that have assisted me and the many others here on SRP through the straight challenge so we may enjoy what has been a daily drudgery. I am honored to be a member of this group and would be proud to call any and all of you friend.
