Thanked: 14grumble grumble stupid Political Correctness
The other night i'm driving home from Grandma's house and i'm listening to Delila's Christmas show (i think its a nationwide thing) she does this easy listening evening show with relationship help and crap like that (mom was riding shotgun so i had to forfeit the radio) and someone requested "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time" by good ole Paul McCartney, the next words that came out of Delila's mouth we're absolutely stupid "And now here is Paul McCartney with Simply Having a Wonderful Holiday Season"...
I understand Political Correctness (actually i really don't) but i think changing the titles of old songs is completly stupid...
and....
done :-)
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Happy Hanukka!
Happy Quanza!
and Happy Holidays

Thanked: 953I agree. I'm Jewish and I love Christmas songs, but christmas songs are christmas songs and hannukah songs are hannukah songs. Now that particular song is awful but no reason to make it an awful song for all religions.....

Such irreverence. Next thing you know we will be assaulted by such rubbish as “Grandperson Got Run Over by a Reindeer”.

Thanked: 995Next to weigh in will be the Association of Antlered Arctic Quadripeds, who will likely claim that they are sensitive drivers and would not have willingingly run over any elderly person unless, of course, she was not wearing a reflective safety garment...

That's odd; Years ago, there was a restaurant I used to go to from time to time and they always seemed to play that Delilah show. I remember looking her up on the net because I wondered if it was local or national and I also found it annoying and touchy feely. IIRC she was/is Christian. So, again, odd that she would waffle on such a note.
I'm more sorry that you had to hear that song. My wife and I have been in agreement for years that that song literally takes the number one spot on our list of the worst/most annoying song on the planet earth.

Agreed Lou.
The wife and I were in Copenhagen for Christmas a few years ago, and that's all they were playing in the stores. It followed us everywhere.
Now I have to admit when I hear it I get nostalgic about that winter. I guess that's the affect they're supposed to have.

Thanked: 335Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the etymology of holiday indicate its roots to be from the long ago and far away "holy day" scheme of things? Wouldn't that make even "holiday" incorrect, politically speaking?
As it turns out, there is no where to turn.
