    Default Outlook 2007 help?

This is rather involved and I have a number of issues, the first of which is the most important. The others are secondary and I may give them a go if it's not too much hassle.

I've migrated to 2 new PCs over the years and used some sort of PC migration software along with doing a good part of it manually. I've migrated my Outlook accounts/settings/data. Started out on ? -> 98 -> 98SE -> XP Pro SP1, SP2, SP3. Currently I'm using XP Pro SP3 with Outlook 2007.

I have an email profile with both a POP3 and IMAP account. I've moved my .PST to my D: drive (The IMAP .pst file is apparently a temporary file and can't be moved but this is not the main issue).

The POP3 account is an SBCglobal account (now AT&T). I've found that they don't delete "deleted" messages from their server. I've always had Outlook setup to "delete messages from server when deleted from Trash folder". I've found this out recently. It is possible to go to their web interface and physically delete the messages from the server but now there are many thousands of them. There is no way to distinguish between ones I've kept in Outlook from those I've deleted in Outlook. On the server they just appear as having been downloaded. It doesn't bother me that much that they're there but it does present a problem with my current issue (below).

I have a Palm app (Call Log+) that syncs with Outlook that is having a problem. It can't find the "default" folder in my current email profile. I created a new profile to test and that worked fine indicating there is something about my current profile it doesn't like. (I believe my .pst files show as being 97 - 2003 compatible format). I would like to just create a new profile. I understand there is a procedure where I can copy/move all the folders, email, and messages from my old .pst file to the newly created one.

    Here's the problem:

POP3 email clients maintain a list of what's been downloaded from the server and what hasn't. This is used so you only download new email each time you "pop" from the server. If I create a new profile it has a fresh list and I'm going to end up downloading everything from the server. That would include thousands of emails, most of which I've deleted (or thought I'd deleted). Additionally, everything would be marked as unread...

Is there any way to copy/move this list from the old profile to the new?

That's the problem. I don't want to delete all of them. There are numbers of them from over the years that I want to save. Maybe around a hundred but I would have to go through thousands one-by-one to find them.

I'm hoping there is a way to move the list of what's already been downloaded, that's kept by Outlook somewhere, from one profile to another for that account.

[edit] Oh... that might work. If I create a new profile (turn off the automatic download), migrate all the email from the old profile to the new profile, THEN (to make sure the migration worked) log onto ATT/Yahoo and delete everything, and then turn on automatic download again. Thanks (why didn't I think of that?). I could probably just call them to do the bulk deletion instead of doing it a page at a time. I *think* it's possible to physically delete from the server through the web interface. I do kind of like the idea that they are all there. Kind of like a free online, remote email backup. I called once before about this and they said it's unlimited.

I'm certainly no expert but here is an article with resources that may be helpful in many situations.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
