    Default Philosophical question.

This morning a thought hit me, (man, I've got to find a job, way too much time on my hands) here I am in a modern bathroom. Electric lights, running hot water, all that and I'm still shaving the way they have for thousands of years. I mean even todays battery powered multi-blade contraptions are still really nothing more than a sharp thing on the end of a stick.

Do you think anything better will come along? Lasers, maybe?

Genetic engineering to prevent facial hair. Or DNA engineering for desired facial hair shapes.

I think hair dissolving creams will get to the point where you take a shaving cream type can, dispense it, rub on the desired areas, then wash it off. Maybe somewhere in the future there will be hair vaporizers like the electric shavers, just better. No prep, no mess, perfectly smooth.

Something else that will likely be a sooner rather than later thing is the laser hair removal. It'll get cheap to the point that any ol' family doctor has one and can take care of it fast.

you could have some kind of quantum photon entanglement with your hair. that way you couldn't tell if it was there or not without collapsing the waveform.

they've been using hair dissolving creams for many thousands of years though. i'd say that all forms of shaving are thousands of years old except for the electric.

I would say that as close as it's come is Nair, and Nair sucks, especially since it's basically for women's legs and armpits, but nothing else.

No telling what they may come up with that will be different but nothing could be better then a good straight razor.

Depends how far into the future you want to go and what facial hair styles will be. Short term will be more alterations to the current crop of electrics and cartridge razors to extract more money out of the masses. Down the road maybe a razor with some sonic device to disintegrate the hair follicles.

The thing I like about shaving with a straight is that it's only partly about the hair on my face getting shorter. There's a craft to it.

Laser treatment IS available and will remove hair permanently. It will even tighten and tone your skin making you look like you have never grown facial hair. Kinda like eternal youth. I'm sure this sort of thing is popular in Hollywood.
