While I personally believe this guy probably deserves to be booted, as even Rush Limbaugh noted-at this point he's only been accused of certain improprieties. As he hasn't been convicted on anything at this point, legally he's presumed to be innocent and unless and until he's convicted, he's legally on firm ground in terms of continuing to function as govener, including the power to make appointments. I don't like it and I wish he and Burris had opted not to act even though there's evidently no legal impediment to them doing so. However, the fact there hasn't been a conviction at this point means Blago is on terrm firma, legally-speaking, insofar as continuing to perform the functions of his office. No doubt this legal point is the reason the Dems were forced to do a 180 in terms of their initial refusal to seat Burris...

I think you're correct. This may not be the most felicitous time to mention that I'm an Illinois Democrat , but I am, and I think the Democratic leadership's mistake on this was not thinking it through before making grand pronouncements that wouldn't hold up legally. Of course, the Washington Dems might have been thinking that no sane person would go ahead and make the appointment in Blago's situation. Illinois Dems could have told them that "sane person" is not an operative concept in this case. (<--- taking any excuse, however marginal, to use the little battle-ax guy)

Thanked: 586This guy is a mental case! He decided to avoid his impeachment trial and appear on national TV instead. He is saying that he is being denied his rights, "Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty". But that only applies to judicial law. This impeachment is political rules. His nonsensical antics remind me of Colin Ferguson. Remember Colin Ferguson, the Long Island Railroad killer? He said he was asleep when someone took the gun he brought with him. He said the FBI put a double on the train to incriminate him. He said he was abducted by aliens. He said so much crap the judge wanted to have him killed. Here's a reminder:Colin Ferguson (convict) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
