If a waiter in Europe brought me the check without me asking for it, I'd be offended. It would be his way of telling me to get out. I dont think I've ever experienced the waiter bringing me the check without me or someone else at the table asking for it. I've been it situations where my table was the last in the restaurant; I'd occasionally catch a waiter lurking over to see if anybody would finally ask for the cheque - but there is no way he would have brought it.
