Thanked: 271I do think that, but consider this: The Israeli army is bigger than any army in NATO except for the United States. I think they could afford to take the risk and if it didn't work out, they could easily take it all back. And don't forget, if they did make peace the US would guarantee it and Hamas, or whomever, would lose all credibility if they didn't abide by it. The fact of the matter is that Israel has never bargained in good faith and the attack on Gaza was planned even before the recent cease-fire began.

Even in constitutions like that of the US Free Speech does NOT mean you can say whatever you like. Inciting hatred is universally off the menu. It's illegal. That's why Germany doesn't allow revisionism re. WWII, it's the incitement of the worst kind of hate.
It is generally accepted in such societies that when you do talk about those things which are legal, that you do so in a respectful manner. One "gent" can easily step in and disrupt that process by including baseless accusation, name calling or what-have-you and then we're off the rails at which point the speaker/moderator will take control.

PS Noam Chomsky is a great man and a brilliant American. Just because one doesn't understand his genius doesn't mean he's a traitor.

Chimensch, you know this because you had the privilege of sitting in on the top secret military meeting that discussed this very issue? ...Or do you know it because the internet and all the anti-Isreali websites told you so?
You speak of these things as if they are written in stone, and you stretch the limits of credulity!

Thanked: 174Great.
So we have all exercised freedom of speech.
This is a shaving forum on this forum you can not be rude to other members or use bad language.
It is frowned upon to discuss the price of razors ( I still don't understand that one) and it is considered rude to question the price that an item is put up for sale at except by direct contact with the seller. Other than that, as long as you are polite, you have freedom of speech.
So, I think Chimensch asked the question of what is freedom of speech. Well my reply is that as near as possible, this forum is an active demonstration of freedom of speech.

Thanked: 271I disagree with the concept = revisionism means inciting hate. If you study the evidence and reach conclusions, shouldn't you be allowed to express them? In my view, the issue with revisionism is that the claim is made that the Holocaust was a unique event, unlike any other genocide, a sacred event outside of history. The revisionists are trying to treat it like any other subject of study. I sometimes wonder if we aren't seeing the birth of a new religion, Holocaustism, centered around the destruction of the Jews. In that case, everything to do with the Holocaust becomes religious doctrine and off-limits to all critique. If the Holocaust was like any other genocide, then, at a certain point the world could ask the Jews to get over it. If it was a special, unique event, unlike any other, then it becomes untouchable. In the end, will have a holy inquisition and "holocaust deniers" will be burned at the stake. After all, they're already being imprisoned.
I thank you for your defense of Chomsky. I admire him greatly.

Thanked: 271Here is one article: Israeli Textbooks and Children’s Literature Promote Racism and Hatred Toward Palestinians and Arabs
Here is another: Do Palestinians Teach Their Children to Hate?
I'm open to continuing to discuss this with you and if you have articles you would like me to read, I will.
