I'm not villainizing the woman for having so many kids. As far as I'm concerned, pump 'em out 'til bankruptcy. I'm also not saying that she should have aborted them due to their health problems. What I am saying is that it seems irresponsible to implant such a high amount of embryos when known issues occur. This is all before the fact. After the fact, I wish all 14 of them fantastic, healthy lives.

You beat me to it QO! I heard about it on the radio on the way home tonight and was pondering a thread, but as I said, you beat me to it!!

Not only was no offense intended, I was thinking about this thread last night (I really do examine my own thoughts and opinions, and have even almost changed one or two!), and I realized that what I said seemed like a personal attack. I hope you accept my word that it was the furthest thing from it. I completely respect your position, and your reasons for it, and would never belittle or insult someone who has a well thought out, examined and deeply held belief, just because it differs from mine.
I know that your argument was a "by logical extension" argument by the extreme, or by absurdity, and I use the tool often myself (my wife hates it....ever seen two lawyers argue over the remote, or whose turn it is to get up with the baby...not funny)
If I offended YOU, or truly, anyone else by my post, please accept my apology, and know it was was caused by verbal (well, written) hamhandedness, and no malicious intent.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

No offense, but this post made me gag.
And now back on topic! Isn't it spooky how every pregnant woman in Hollywood seems to pump out twins these days? They're obviously seeing fertility specialists to make their pregnancies "2 for the price of 1" arrangements, so their careers aren't stalled as long as they'd be if they had them one by one.

Yeah, it was kinda gag-worthy, but I find it important to keep all conversations (and these conversations in particular) VERY much on the side of gentlemanly and respectful, if we are to be able to have them on the board. I have been a member of boards where religion, politics, and "sensitive issues" are completely forbidden, as it is just too easy for the peace to be breached. I'd prefer to be able to conduct these conversations the way I do with family and friends. Respectfully, even when we disagree.

I don't understand what the fuss is about.
12 kid families used to be the norm in Belgium after the war. Ok maybe 12 was not the average, but definitely 6 or 7. And 12 - 14 was not unheard of. A coleague of mine is from a nest of 14
If someone wants to have many kids, why not?
What I know from IVF is that they implant a number of embryos, because not all of them will take hold and be viable. But if they do and they want to keep all 8, then bravo to them I say.
A colleague of mine had something similar with fertility treatments, and his wife ended up pregnant of quadruplets. It was lifethreatening to the mother and they had to remove one after a while. The doctors wanted to remove 2 but they said no.
The only reason they allowed 1 to be taken away was that the mother was in mortal danger, and they would lose all 4 + the mother then.
As for costs... I don't give a fig.
Medical cost are like insurances. I am not mad at someone for needing the insurance after a car crash, so why would I be angry at someone for racking up medical costs? That is what the system is for. It's a sad day when the choice to have kids is regarded as a despicable and selfish act.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
To spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the Last Day

Thanked: 278If they can afford to provide for those kids it's fine. If they want to sponge off the state instead, that's different.
Because one event is random and unavoidable. The other is a lifestyle choice. (in this context.)
It is sad when despicable and selfish couples choose to have children they can't afford to look after.
My comments are coloured by the fact I live in a country where hard working folks get taxed to the hilt and end up poorer than unemployed people who pump out babies like there's no tomorrow and get massive benefits, free housing etc etc.
