These are part of my childhood memories... but not in english, no! These were only available in Portugal (in the late 80's and early 90's) translated into brazilian portuguese... for those not knowing... the brazilian portuguese is very diferent from the portuguese portuguese... so it was weird and that produced a lot of nice jokes that still populate my generation's imaginarium!...

    Default Pandora's Box

This is a subject to which I have a long list of favourites, but I will edit that to my top 5. ... ahem ...

In the number 4 and 5 positions both go to British Sci-Fi themes. Two greats that have been re-envisioned and rerecorded throughout the years and have always come out shining.

The next two spots go one to perhaps the most rousing and heroic theme ever composed and the most horrifying kids show theme ever conceived:

And the number one spot must go to this poetic and evocative piece which lead us for the first time into a TV land unlike any other since perhaps the Outer Limits.

    Underdog had a good theme.

The Hilarious House of Frightenstein has more of an intro than a theme... but I like it. I watched reruns of that show as a kid and it freaked me out. I got that they were trying to be funny, but I was too spooked by Vincent Price and The Librarian to focus on the humour.

Twin Peaks as a contender for BEST theme song, though? No way! Same goes for the other two.

    The Rockford Files
    COPS
    Hawaii Five-O
    Cheers

Now those are themes. Instantly identifiable, upbeat, iconic anthems of television.

Think about it: You're starring on a TV show -- do you want to be Jack Lord, chilling on the balcony of your penthouse apartment for the fly-by helicopter shot in Hawaii Five-O, or simply have your name printed over the depressing theme music of Twin Peaks, with shots of lonely wilderness and go-nowhere industrial plants? (Oh, and not to mention the pretentious douche of a director!)

    Hawaii Five-O, that's right!

I'm down with Mike et al on the Fresh Prince. Here it is, with lyrics!

And seeing Ironsides up there reminded me of what has got to the absolute single most swingin' TV theme song, Perry Mason. I mea didn't Ozzy Osbourne cover this tune?

I suggest the most violent opening theme is The Rifleman:

Okay, I'm stuck on the western thang. Have Gun Will Travel was sung by the boys in the movie Lean on Me:
