I haven't read all the articles, but I get the impression that these arent' "villages" or towns as in "downtown", but homes and communities that are in relatively rural areas. They are surrouned by trees and brush.
My thoughts are with you all down in Australia.

Ok that is indeed different. For cities and villages, you could do it. For single or only a handful of houses, not so much.
Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 586This was the lead story today on the front page of the New York Times. I know the awful pain of watching your home burn. My thoughts are there with the people affected by this tragic conflagration.

From what I saw on the link Denmason provided the newspaper had a poll asking if a conservation policy that did not allow for the cutting/ removal of undergrowth may have been responsible for the ferocity of the fires. If people/communities arent allowed to clear the underbrush, especially in drought conditions the chances of fire are inevitable. This is what we get for letting government do the thinking for us instead of relying on our own good sense.

I saw the pictures of Sam & Bob the koalas. At least there is something good for people to remember from this tragedy. Like the rest of you, I'll never understand why some people get a kick out of starting fires. Arsonists are a sick, twisted bunch.
