Actually, I heard on the news that he purchased the station after 9/11 to try to help show Islam in a better light and deflect some of the anti-muslim feeling created by that event. Oh well :gaah:

As for the cultural debate going on here, I think it's fair to say that the western cultures are more progressive, forward looking, and yes, better for the condition of man -overall, compared to cultures stuck where the west was 5-10 centuries ago....That's just my opinion, YMMV ;)

My comment regarding the initial post:

Funny thing: the news report quoted in the original post made absolutely no reference to this being a so-called honor killing. Yet the fact the killing was done by a Muslim has (evidently) triggered multiple responses assuming it was done as an honor killing. Isn't this jumping the gun just a tad? There are scores of acts of domestic violence that occur daily through out this country, many of which include gruesome acts of murder. This could just be another. So why was there this immediate assumption that honor killing was at the root of this particular incident without any supporting facts?

If he were truly concerned about the image of Muslims in the US, he should have blended in better and put her through a wood chipper or dumped her in the lake! This way, it wouldn't look prescribed. :rolleyes:

Look-I'm not saying it might not turn out to be exactly that. But the fact of the matter is-we don't know whether it was or wasn't at this point. But those who assume it "must have been" because the husband is a Muslim fall into the same trap as those who blindly jump to conclusions, or make assumptions, based upon certain ethnic or religious or racial characteristics. I think if you'd spend say, oh 5 seconds Googling "decapitation murders" you'd find the vast majority of reported cases did not involve honor killings by Muslims. But I guess if a Muslim is the alleged perp, it must've been an honor killing...seems to me this kind of thinking only leads to unfortunate stereotyping. Oh-and I get it: he took her head off. Ain't the first or last time that's happened in the most violent nation on Earth.

Hey, I rented a woodchipper from the same place Mr. Krafts rented the one through which he passed his wife and that lake is in my town.

It's ironic that he would do something that gives the perception (perceptions are important after all) of an honor killing, given his concern over the image of muslims in the US.

Maybe we wouldn't think this if honor killings weren't still legitimized in too many places. They are just a particularly glaring example of the differences between our cultures and values. We'll see what happened soon enough. I'm sure the case will be reenacted on Discover ID within the year.

And yes, men kill their wives here, but it's because they're whacko, not an archaic religious teaching or cultural norm.
