So whenever there's a murder involving decapitation, assume it's an honor killing? Oh, I see...
Look-I'm not saying it might not turn out to be exactly that. But the fact of the matter is-we don't know whether it was or wasn't at this point. But those who assume it "must have been" because the husband is a Muslim fall into the same trap as those who blindly jump to conclusions, or make assumptions, based upon certain ethnic or religious or racial characteristics. I think if you'd spend say, oh 5 seconds Googling "decapitation murders" you'd find the vast majority of reported cases did not involve honor killings by Muslims. But I guess if a Muslim is the alleged perp, it must've been an honor killing...seems to me this kind of thinking only leads to unfortunate stereotyping. Oh-and I get it: he took her head off. Ain't the first or last time that's happened in the most violent nation on Earth.

If it looks like a duck...(sorry, does this insult ducks? I take it back. I wouldn't want to hurt their duck self esteem)
.
It's ironic that he would do something that gives the perception (perceptions are important after all) of an honor killing, given his concern over the image of muslims in the US.
Maybe we wouldn't think this if honor killings weren't still legitimized in too many places. They are just a particularly glaring example of the differences between our cultures and values. We'll see what happened soon enough. I'm sure the case will be reenacted on Discover ID within the year.
And yes, men kill their wives here, but it's because they're whacko, not an archaic religious teaching or cultural norm.

Welcome to the USA. "Now speak English". "No masks worn on your drivers license photo or in public unless you are going to rob someone and No Beheadings". You could also use a shave.

Thanked: 586A few years back I remember a news report about a dismembered human body that was found in several trash bags in front of a house on Long Island. The newscaster said, "The body has yet to be identified because the head, hands and feet are not immediately available. The investigation has disclosed the victim to be a male in his mid thirties. Foul play is suspected."
Now there's some impressive detective work.

LOL, in a depressing sorta way.
I remember reading about a guy with a single shot rifle found next to him with a number of bullet wounds, most of which would have been fatal by themselves, whose death was ruled a suicide by the examiner. I should probably check snopes before posting this.

I completely agree. Seem like a clear cut case of domestic violence. I do not understand where "honor killing" was ever even mentioned. Sounds like a the guy was a complete psycho and his wife had served him divorce papers, which lead to the horrendous murder. IMO The man deserves no mercy
If I you replaced the Muslim names and Christian name or anglo saxon names the first thought that would come to your mind would be that this guy was a complete sociopath. Honor killing only comes to our heads because of the bias embedded in your head about anyone with a Muslim name
Not to mention the guy was in the US for 25 yrs (very likely an American citizen) and very likely to have grown up here in the US and very like adopted many "Western" cultural norms. I have always believed, that your culture has a much stronger influence on you as an individual than your religion.
