Thanked: 23I did carpentry work for the last seven years. I never bothered to go to school for it though, which I regret a little now, though I doubt having my license would really help due to the lack of building going on. It just didn't seem to make sense at the time. I worked for the same company for like 5 of those years and as I got better and learned more I just kept getting raises, so it didn't seem to make sense to take time off to go to school when I could work and make money instead. :P

Been there... done that...
I've been laid of a couple of years ago when I was working with an American Semiconductor company that closed the european operation down and moved our R&D jobs to India (not sure if that was a smart thing to do)
Financialy it wasnt all that of a problem but applying for jobs was a job on its own.... our social security system is pretty good but it was no picknick.. I dont think I'll lose my job anywere soon but I'll be glad to pay my taxes and pay for the people that lose theirs...
When I lost my job I know my collegues, that got fired in the US weren't that lucky the good guys jumped ship.. but I'm pretty sure some of them will lose their jobs in this crisis.. The semiconductor business is one of the first that feels the blow when the S$%t hits the fan..
The good thing is that we start appreciating what we've got...
