Some considerate Badass,as for me I love it.Its a relaxing way to do a thing that was once a chore.I like the feeling of the hot towel, the smell of the soaps, the old school after shaves, and the sound of a fine tuned razor glideing accross the stubble with a crisp sound of hairs snapping.Especially when I self honed my razor.I like vintage razors, these razors have a history behind each one making each one unique. So in other words,YES,I think str8 shaving is badass.

This is my exact reasoning for voting that "Yes, it is bad-ass." My stepdad, an Army Vet and retired Police officer with more than 25 years wearing a badge, as well as my coworker who was in the armored division of the Army during Vietnam BOTH say that I'm crazy for shaving with a straight, that they both wouldn't dare deal with the danger.
If two army Vets and a retired cop say it's too dangerous, I'd say it's badass.
I personally don't know how I even started. One day, I just snapped and decided to do it. Ever since, I've been hooked. I know I didn't do it to be "hip" or "badass," but old westerns where Lee Van Cleef would shave were just cool looking to me.

I get what you are all saying. It's nice to see that some people here think that it is bad-ass and that it is not bad-ass. I, for one, fit into the second group. I don't think it is bad-ass... one hundred years ago this was the only way to shave and every man that did shave did it like this. And that accounts for the manliest man and the coward that runs away in when he faces the ultimate danger: a little mouse.
This makes me conclude - and that means that I think I've grasped the meaning of bad-ass... - that this is a question of perspective and history. Let me elaborate briefly.
Army vets and policemen say they couldn cope with the danger. Why is that? Because they have seen real danger in their lives. And they are also used to picture shaving as something harmless. So, the thought of having a razor - and the razor has this... aura... in popular culture - put to their faces is considered dangerous. But how come this is considered dangerous and bad-ass? Because we're involved in the aura of the razor, that tool of evil sweeney todd-ness... but we have to keep in mind the mundane character of this action: shaving! It's only shaving! How come something as mundane as this, something that wouldn't have risen any brows 100 years ago is so dangerous and bad-ass? Because we live in a safe confy world. And that puts a mundane chore in the zenith of periless actions! Shaving thus becomes bad-ass. It's not. For me, at least...
Mind me, I enjoy being called crazy for indulging in such daily danger. I enjoy watching my mother panic thinking that I'll chop my head off in no time... yes, I do think this might be a bit more dangerous than a Mach 3. But no extra chest hairs have grown on my chest... yet. And might I add that I am what most of you would consider a coward? I will avoid a fight at all times, I drive slowly, I indulge in mild sports as golf and badminton... and I shave with a straight. I am sorry, my friends. I cannot seem to find the bad-ass in shaving with a straight. Period!

My thoughts exactly! My first "several" shaves I was perceived as the ultimate "Bad Ass" because my face was a total disaster and everyone thought I must be one of the toughest SOB's out there. Truth be told; I was in the fetal position sucking on my thumb for the first few weeks!

Ok, guys. This thread as grown a bit cold now so I think it's time we draw some conclusions out of all this.
First of all let me thank the 79 people that voted. That was cool!
And now, let's see what we came up with.
- 37 people voted for, "yes, it's bad ass!", making a total of an astonishing 46.84%.
- 13 people (including me...) voted for "no, it is not bad ass", making for a disapointing 16.46% and still being unable to decide if we are having scones for tea... I guess this is a still active discussion. At least until we can come to a decision on that topic.
- 6 people voted for "yes" despite never having thought of it that way, making that 7.59%.
- 8 people voted for "no" despite never having thought of it that way, making that 10.13%.
- 15 people don't understand what are we rambling about sibce their wives think their ass is just fine. That makes 18.99%. More power to them!
So... since we are a considerate, gentlemanly and very democratic community I hereby declare, after counting votes and analyzing the results, that straight razor shaving is, indeed... a very bad ass thing.
However... I am a rebel! And I will imediately start a revolutionary mouvement that will overthrow the bad ass-ness of straight razor shaving after a coup. And I, along with my 13 comrades will retreat to the mountains and fight you all by throwing leftover scones at you... or crumpets... if we can decide what we're having for tea in any case... so there!
