The story about the deputy killed in an auto accident also reported that the deputy was not wearing a reflective vest at the time of the accident (after 10pm). Also, while the news article uses the term "distracted" as to the 16 year old driver who struck the deputy, it did not say the teen was talking on her cell phone or applying make up. Rather, it pointed out that the area of the accident was under construction, and there were signs and flashing lights that may have distracted the driver, who said she never saw the deputy standing in the road way. This is hardly a good example of justice gone wrong.
As to the story about the couple who severely mistreated their children-horrible story, I agree. The parents should have seen serious jail time. But if the prosecutor didn't have the witnesses who could testify to prove his case, he had no choice but to accept the plea deal.
Again, aside from the superficial appearance of "injustice" of these examples, after reading the basic facts underlying these cases I'm not clear as to why they are representative of this tread's point.
