    Default Ice Palace!

I live in Saranac Lake,N.Y. and it's one of the coldest spots in the nation.Every year,in February, this town has a winter carnival to break up the long winter. They have a parade, sporting events, goofy contests(frying pan toss etc.)They also build an Ice Palace by cutting blocks of ice from the bay of the lake in town. This year they also built an ice pirate ship since the theme was pirates. This is a link to a time-lapse film of the building of this years Palace.www.adksearch.com/Be sure to click on the Ice Palace 2009 link on the left for still photos. At the end of Carnival, they shoot fireworks over the palace for the hardy people who want to stand out in the cold.

Quebec City builds an Ice Hotel every year. Yes you can stay there. Yes the beds are carved out of ice too. The bar needs ice fridges to keep the drinks from freezing!
