I cried today
Nothing horrific, nor near Niagara Falls style...but almost a tear.
It was caused by a series of images from a suicide bombing in Sri Lanka this week. A group of muslims are celebrating in a parade, and near the rear, you see (picture-by-picture) an explosion. The aftermath shows people dying, dead, or horrifically / mortally wounded. I didn't think about it, I didn't force it, but my eyes just welled up.
How can such an atrocity still exist in our world?
I'm not writing this to share a viewpoint, or to make a viewpoint known, or to start a conversation about terrorism...or even to share that it frustrates me that this stuff happens still.
I just wanted to say--somewhat publically--that I greatly dislike what the world is becoming, and am vowing to do whatever I can to help fight the violence and atrocities that are beleaguring the innocent people worldwide.

It's interesting how similar we all are, yet how differently we all see each other. I try a little harder every day to see myself in everyone else. That's a lot of what it takes from all of us.

I guess as an Israeli i became so numb to this kind of news, it doesnt mean its not horrible, im sad by the fact this doesnt make me sad, living this reality makes you somehow "immune".
Can't see any point to fight it, it's a reflection of ourselves, one must change himself first, perhaps our next gernerations will be better than us.
Peace all !

Maybe you have heard about that school shootings on Wednesday in Germany.
I live just 30 miles away from that city. And I know people from my university who live there. I was shocked and disgusted.
You know, sometimes I'm not a decent man, but there a differences in getting drunk sometimes (for example) on one hand, and killing 16 or more people or bombing children on the other hand.Last edited by Antares; 03-13-2009 at 11:14 PM.

That's the thing...I've been numb to all of this recently too. I live in Chicagoland, and last year I had a TON of friends who were at NIU when there was a shooting there. There have been shootings in my town too, and people have died, but for some reason this terrorist attack on a parade got to me.
I'm--by all rights--a numb person too. I've grown up in a police / fire family, and am working on becoming a law enforcement officer. I hear stories all the time of things that have been seen / experienced by my family and friends, and it never phased me...but for whatever reason, this attack on a parade just got to me.
