Does anyone know about the tea parties?
I have been hearing a little here and a little there of the growing non-partisan rallies protesting the willy nilly spending of the US government.
I wonder if anyone here has been involved in any of these? Can anyone shed any light on these? Information about these rallies seem hard to come by but I occasionally run across an article suggesting that these rallies are wide spread and are becoming bigger as our people become more and more fed up with our current government.
As to why I can't find any mainstream news on the subject is anybody's guess. Is it because they are far too insignificant to be newsworthy or is it more evidence of a failed media?

Thanked: 40The big one that should have hit the news was in OH, but yes, they are happening everywhere from what has been on the radio.

Thanked: 346It's highly unlikely they're non-partisan. They just don't want to admit that they're republicans - it appears most of these "protests" are being held in republican areas so I'm just guessing its just the frustrated obama-haters blowing off steam. The press is right to ignore them, at least for now. Once we start seeing big marches in washington and other important cities like san francisco or new york or even boston, then maybe they'll be news. But right now it's just a lot of nothing.

Apparently there were thousands ( 4000 was the official count ) in Cincinnati and this is the first I heard of it. It seems an event that big would be picked up nationally. When bush was in they seem to carry as many protests against bush as the could whether it was 2 or 200!

Thanked: 369Are these "tea parties" doing justice to the original Tea Party of 1773? Throwing King Georges money into Boston Harbor really hurt and pi*sed him off. The colonists displayed some real Testicular Fortitude (read - BALLS).
When John Lennon infuriated the Bible Belt with his Jesus comment in 1966, good Christians got together (no pun) and stomped Beatles records in the streets. Yet another display of TF. Unfortunately for them, the Beatles had already made their money.
Imagine where we'd be if all the colonists ever did was get together and hold up signs.
But I suppose it's a good start.

Thanked: 79I doubt this is quite on the money. The media has had a huge bias in one direction and one direction only for several years now; comments above are correct also wrt even tiny protests getting camera coverage (so long as they were anti-Bush/anti-war/etc etc etc). The frustration is with both parties. The Democratic party has become essentially communist, with the Republican party abandoning its conservative support, to cow to the same viewpoints, overall. They didn't get it. Even when outspoken Sarah Palin raised their support levels, they thought the opposite and continued pandering to the other side. Perhaps I wanted to vote for a conservative, not a communist/socialist/statist/whatever in Democrat clothing, or worse, the same thing, paraded as a "Republican" as if it made a difference.
Now there are issues arising that should have been considered prior to the election, but just weren't important enough apparently, what with mainstream types getting tingling sensations in their legs every time Mr. Obama was near. Now these same who were in a frenzy to get him elected are puzzled that he doesn't operate well without a teleprompter. Smart AND pretty don't often come in the same package. Not to mention, while it may seem like a petty argument, if Obama was indeed born in the US why not just display the birth certificate and get it over with; why prolong the controversy?[for non U.S. members, the U.S. President is mandated to be a U.S. citizen by birth...and the provisional birth certificate produced by the campaign/administration...wouldn't even get someone a job as a gardner in DC...you need the real one...]
Likewise, while the people in Congress and the media like blaming (former) Pres. Bush's administration for all their woes..."We inherited this mess"....etc.. never mind the fact that the actual people making the rules...have been the same for years. The same party is still in power in Congress.
I also am uneasy about the recent "outrage" over AIG. The same folks stridently declaring they were going to tax away ALL of those executives' bonuses...were the same folks who voted to make the bonuses possible in the first place. To me, it looks like a move intended to allow them to set a precedent, of the Government being able to reach into private businesses on its whim and take as much as it wants.
And we thought having them listen when those late night calls from Afghanistan came in was bad.
I just don't think the tea parties are going to work much; one group has overall control of the media (or perhaps the media control of them?) and has simply used this to rise to political power as well. The general "flushing" sound ensues.
After all; the original participants in the "tea party" risked their lives.
Benedict Arnold was hanged as a traitor, in spite of his victories on behalf of the continental army...for doing far less than what nowadays goes as "great reporting" and gains acclaim.
The news is bought and paid for. Until people start being tarred and feathered again on a regular basis, I fear this is not going to improve.
Forgive me for not organizing my thoughts more, but I see the writing on the wall as much as anyone else, and it isn't all good.
