Lance Armstrong is my choice. Perseverance through adversity. He had an inner strength that we could only dream about. IMO the best athlete of all time.

Can we contribute more than once ? How about the caveat that it has to be an actual person who accomplished what they did in real life and not an actor playing a part ? Brigadier General James Stewart was an actor but he actually flew combat missions over Germany in WWII and risked his life fighting for his country. Not just a play actor. The uniform was US government issue, not from central casting.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
